Quick answer

The Zebra Kirarich is a single-sided, chisel-tip highlighter whose water-based pigment ink carries finely crushed, silver-coated glass, so lines sparkle as they dry. Zebra Japan lists a 3.5 mm line, 133.5 mm length, 10.1 g and five colors, and says you needn't shake it first. Yoseka sold it in our $ band.

What is the Zebra Kirarich?

It is a glitter highlighter: a wide chisel-tip marker whose ink holds tiny sparkling particles. Zebra Japan describes silver-blended lame ink that makes the line shine, aimed at decorating your planner or a note to a friend. The name is Zebra’s own, written Kirarich in English.

Zebra’s other highlighter, the Mildliner, is a pastel marker with two tips. The Kirarich is a different tool: a single-sided pen for sparkle rather than a general reading highlighter.

What are the size and specs?

Zebra Japan lists it at 133.5 mm long, 12.0 mm across at the widest, 10.1 g, with a 3.5 mm line. The ink is water-based pigment. Yoseka adds that it is a chisel tip only, that the ink is waterproof, and that it is a product of Japan.

What is the glitter made of?

Zebra says it is finely crushed glass particles coated with vaporized silver, mixed into the ink. That is why the line catches light. The company adds that older glitter markers needed a good shake before use, and the Kirarich does not.

We haven’t tested how evenly the sparkle lays down, or whether it lifts when you write over it. See the hands-on note below.

What colors does it come in?

Five: pink, yellow, green, purple and blue. Zebra Japan lists each with its own WKS18 code and a five-color set. Yoseka also sells packs of three and five, which suits anyone who wants only a couple of shades.

Color names here are the makers’ plain color words, so match the code on the pack if you need an exact color.

How is it different from a Mildliner?

The Kirarich is single-sided with one 3.5 mm chisel; the Mildliner has a chisel and a bullet end. Yoseka makes the same point: the Mildliner’s fine and chisel tips are replaced here by a chisel only. In our Mildliner guide the chisel is 4.0 mm and the bullet 1.0 to 1.4 mm, so the Kirarich is a little narrower than a Mildliner chisel.

Bars to scale: the 3.5 mm Kirarich line, the 4.0 mm Mildliner chisel line and the widest 1.4 mm Mildliner bullet line
Line widths to scale at 1 mm = 10 px; the Kirarich width is Zebra Japan's, the Mildliner widths come from our Mildliner guide. Original illustration made for this guide. © Stationery Times.

If your goal is reading notes, our roundups of highlighters that don’t bleed and Japanese highlighters are better starting points. The Kirarich is for decoration.

What is it good for?

Decoration first, highlighting second. Zebra Japan says the sparkling line lets you decorate your planner or a letter to a friend with no fuss, and Yoseka lists notes, bullet journals, card making and “spontaneous sparkly decoration”. The wide 3.5 mm chisel suits borders, header bands, date banners and filled boxes.

With only one chisel end, there is no fine tip for small icons or underlines, so pair it with a fineliner. The ink is water-based pigment, so as with other pigment markers it is wise to test it on the paper you plan to use before you commit a page.

What can’t we tell you yet?

Dry time, fade resistance, show-through and the colors sold outside Japan. Neither page gives a release date, a lightfastness figure or a statement on whether the glitter rubs off. We haven’t handled a pen, and Zebra’s US site wasn’t checked for a Kirarich listing. Yoseka’s waterproof claim is the only statement about water, and Zebra’s own page doesn’t repeat it.

When we test it, we will report how the sparkle looks on white, cream and dark paper, and whether it dulls over printed type.

Where is it made, and what does it cost?

Japan, per Yoseka’s listing; Zebra Japan’s page doesn’t state it. Zebra Japan lists one at ¥132 (about US$0.84) with tax. Yoseka Stationery listed it at US$2.00 on October 31, 2026, in our $ band (under $5), as a single color or in a pack.

We couldn’t confirm Zebra Pen’s US availability or its US name from a US maker page, so US buyers should check an importer. We haven’t read a retailer’s review sample, and JetPens and Amazon block our requests.

Frequently asked questions

Do you need to shake the Kirarich?

No. Zebra Japan says that, unlike older glitter markers, you don't have to shake it well before use.

Is the Kirarich waterproof?

Yoseka's listing calls the ink waterproof. Zebra Japan's page says only that it is a water-based pigment ink, so we haven't confirmed it and suggest testing a line before you wet a page.

Does it have a fine tip?

No. Yoseka says it is single-sided with a chisel tip only, and Zebra Japan lists one line width, 3.5 mm.

How many colors are there?

Five on Zebra Japan's page: pink, yellow, green, purple and blue. Yoseka also sells packs of three and five.

Can you use it on printed text like a normal highlighter?

Zebra pitches it for decorating planners and letters, and Yoseka for notes and bullet journals. Whether the glitter lets small print show through is untested here.

What are the Kirarich model numbers?

WKS18-P (pink), WKS18-Y (yellow), WKS18-G (green), WKS18-PU (purple) and WKS18-BL (blue), per Zebra Japan's product listing. The five-color set is WKS18-5C.

How heavy is a Kirarich?

Zebra Japan lists 10.1 g with a maximum diameter of 12.0 mm and a length of 133.5 mm.
