What is the Conklin Duragraph?
It’s a modern take on Conklin’s 1923 Duragraph: an oversize, flat-topped resin fountain pen with a steel nib. Goulet Pens says the name joins “durable” and “graph”, and that the original was soon called “the definitive” pen.
Conklin was founded in Toledo, Ohio, in 1898, and Yafa bought and revived the brand in 2009, Goulet says. Goulet adds that the current collection was introduced for the Duragraph’s 91st birthday, with “Toledo, Ohio” engraved on the nib and barrel.
It’s one of the most-reviewed fountain pens from a US brand on Amazon: Cracked Ice had 339 ratings and Amber 366 when we checked on October 23, 2026.

Which Duragraph nib should you choose?
Pick F or M for everyday writing, the 1.1 mm stub for italic-style lettering, or the Omniflex if you want some line variation. All are German JoWo #6 steel nibs, Goulet says.
The Omniflex is softer than a standard nib. Goulet recommends flexing it to no more than about twice its normal width, or the tines may not spring back. Our nib sizes guide shows how wide each letter writes.
How do you fill the Conklin Duragraph?
With a standard international short cartridge or the converter that comes in the box. Goulet measures 1.06 ml in a cartridge and 1.04 ml in the converter.
That’s a typical capacity for a cartridge pen, less than a piston filler. Our guide to filling a fountain pen walks through both methods.
How does the Duragraph compare to similar pens?
It is longer than most starter pens but no heavier than the brass-bodied Pilot Metropolitan. Here is how it lines up against two pens we cover, using each guide’s figures.

The Esterbrook Estie is the closest rival from another revived American name. The Pilot Metropolitan is the cheaper choice if you just want a reliable metal-bodied first pen.
Where is the Conklin Duragraph made?
Goulet Pens says it is manufactured in Asia and then assembled and distributed from Canoga Park, California. Neither Goulet nor the other listings we read names the country, and Conklin’s own site didn’t load for us.
The nib is German: Goulet describes it as a “German made JoWo #6”. For more about pens from the brand’s early years, see our vintage fountain pens guide.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Conklin Duragraph a good first fountain pen?
It's a reasonable step up from a starter pen if you want a larger pen: it takes standard international cartridges or a converter and has a common JoWo #6 nib. Goulet's reviews average 4.31 stars on the Forest Green, lower than many pens at the price, so check the reviews for the color you want.
What cartridges fit the Conklin Duragraph?
Standard international short cartridges, Goulet Pens says. A converter and one cartridge come in the box for bottled ink.
What is the Omniflex nib on the Duragraph?
A soft JoWo steel nib that gives some line variation with extra pressure. Goulet suggests flexing it to no more than about twice its normal line width, to avoid springing the tines.
Can you swap the nib on a Duragraph?
The pen uses a #6 JoWo nib, one of the most common sizes, and Goulet sells the Duragraph with specialty grinds. Swapping a JoWo #6 unit is usually simple, but check the fit with the seller before buying a spare.
Who owns Conklin pens?
Yafa, which bought and revived the Conklin brand in 2009, according to Goulet Pens. The original Conklin was founded in Toledo, Ohio, in 1898.
How much does the Conklin Duragraph weigh?
26.0 g with the cap and converter, Goulet Pens measures, of which 12 g is the cap. Pen Chalet lists 28.35 g.
