What is the KOKUYO Campus ANY LINER?

It is a double-ended highlighter from KOKUYO’s Campus student brand, built around an ink that resists showing through thin paper. KOKUYO launched it in Japan on September 16, 2026, at ¥100 (about US$0.60) a pen before tax, and JetPens lists it among its new arrivals.

The name means it works on any paper. KOKUYO says students highlight textbooks, handouts, reference books and dictionaries of very different paper weights, and many complain of show-through and of ink spreading where a stroke ends.

How does the ANY LINER ink resist show-through?

KOKUYO’s own ink contains hollow micro-particles, solids that it says keep the ink from soaking into the paper. Less ink reaches the back of the sheet, so the text on the reverse side stays readable, and the end of each stroke spreads less.

That is a maker claim; KOKUYO defines “clean” as less show-through so the marker doesn’t clash with text on the back. JetPens repeats it, saying the ink resists bleed-through even where it pools at the end of a line, and lists it as water-based and waterproof.

What sizes and colors are there?

Two tip pairings and fifteen colors.

JetPens lists the 4 mm/fine pen at 13.5 cm capped, 15.7 cm posted, 9.6 mm across and 8 g. The Amazon.com listing gives about 137 mm and 11 mm, so expect small differences.

The neon colors are bright, the soft colors pale, and the smoky colors muted. KOKUYO’s 5-color sets list at ¥500 (about US$3.20) before tax in Japan, and JetPens sells each family as a set.

Why is KOKUYO making highlighters?

The ANY LINER is half of KOKUYO’s bigger push into writing instruments under its Campus brand. On the same day, September 16, 2026, KOKUYO launched the Campus Magic Fit, a mechanical pencil and gel pen whose grip combines round and hexagonal shapes, aimed at writing neatly at speed.

KOKUYO is best known in the US for its Campus notebook, and it published a PR TIMES story on how the two writing lines were developed for students’ study problems. In its testing for the Magic Fit, KOKUYO surveyed 111 Japanese middle and high school students.

How does it compare with other highlighters?

Its pitch is low show-through; the Zebra Mildliner is chosen more for its soft colors. Both are twin-tip, but the Mildliner pairs a chisel with a fine bullet tip, like the ANY LINER’s 4 mm/fine type.

For a single broad highlighter, the STABILO BOSS ORIGINAL is the classic, and our highlighters that don’t bleed compares more.

Can you buy the ANY LINER in the US?

Yes: JetPens sells the three 5-color sets and the colors singly, and KOKUYO sets are on Amazon.com. On October 22, 2026, JetPens listed both types in all three color families, with 18 of them on its new-arrivals page, and per-pen prices put it in our $ band (under $5).

Where is the ANY LINER made?

KOKUYO doesn’t state it in its release, and JetPens and Amazon don’t either. We list it as not stated until we can check a package.

Frequently asked questions

Does the ANY LINER bleed through thin paper?

KOKUYO designed it not to: its ink has hollow micro-particles that, KOKUYO says, stop the ink soaking into the paper, so it shows through less on copy paper, printouts and dictionary-thin pages. We haven't tested it yet.

What is the difference between the two ANY LINER types?

The 4 mm / fine type pairs a highlighter with a fine tip for writing notes; the 4 mm / 2 mm type gives two highlighter widths, so you can mark small print or rank points by importance.

What colors does the ANY LINER come in?

Fifteen: five neon, five soft and five smoky colors. JetPens sells each family as a 5-color set and the colors singly.

Is the ANY LINER refillable?

No. JetPens lists the ink and tips as not refillable or replaceable.

Is the ANY LINER the same as a Zebra Mildliner?

No. Both are twin-tip markers in soft colors, but the Mildliner pairs a chisel with a fine bullet and is sold for its mild colors, while the ANY LINER's selling point is ink that resists show-through.

Where can I buy the KOKUYO ANY LINER in the US?

JetPens sells all three 5-color sets and the single colors, and KOKUYO sets are listed on Amazon.com.
