What is the Sailor Profit Casual L?
It is Sailor’s full-size Profit fountain pen with a stainless-steel nib that is hand-finished like Sailor’s gold nibs and coated in gold-colored IP. Sailor launched the Profit Casual L Gold Trim in Japan on October 4, 2025, at ¥13,200 (about US$84).
In the US it is sold as the 1911 Casual L, since Sailor’s Profit series is called the 1911 abroad. Goulet Pens says it is the same size as the classic Sailor 1911L, and it screws closed and posts. For the same 141 mm size with a large 21k gold nib, see our Sailor 1911 Large guide.
All from Sailor’s Japanese product page. Goulet measured its US Demonstrator at 140.7 mm capped, 153.4 mm posted, a 13.1 mm body and 21 g with a converter.
How is the steel nib different from Sailor’s gold nibs?
It is stainless steel, but Sailor applies the same time-consuming hand finishing it uses on its gold nibs. Sailor says that gives a smoother feel than before, like writing with a gold-nib pen; the gold color is an IP coating, not gold.
The Casual L beside two 14k-nib pens, capped lengths to scale.
It takes Sailor’s proprietary cartridges or a Sailor converter, and the cap screws on and posts on the back. Goulet measured 1.21 ml in a cartridge and 0.70 ml in the converter, and says the US pen comes with a converter and two black cartridges.
Goulet’s measurements of the Demonstrator: the cap takes 1.75 turns to remove, the cap is 66.4 mm long and 15.6 mm across, the visible nib is 21.2 mm, and the pen weighs 21 g with a converter, 12 g of it in the body. Posted, it grows to 153.4 mm (6.0 in).

Frequently asked questions
Is the Sailor 1911 Casual L the same as the Profit Casual L?
Yes, it is the same line under Sailor's US name: Sailor sells the Profit series as the 1911 outside Japan. US retailers carry versions Japan's site doesn't list, such as Goulet's crystal-clear Demonstrator (11-0823) and JetPens' Casual L Stable (11-0825) with a brass grip.
Does the Sailor Profit Casual L have a gold nib?
No. The nib is stainless steel with a gold-colored IP (ion plating) finish. Sailor says it hand-finishes it like its 14k and 21k nibs so it writes like a gold-nib pen.
What nib sizes does the Profit Casual L come in?
Five: extra fine, fine, medium fine, medium and broad, in all four colors.
What ink does the Sailor Profit Casual L take?
Sailor's proprietary cartridges or a Sailor converter; Goulet says the US version comes with a converter and two black cartridges. Goulet measured 1.21 ml in a cartridge and 0.70 ml in the converter.
Is the Profit Casual L Basis different?
Slightly. The Basis (11-0822), launched May 16, 2026 at ¥16,500 (about US$104), adds a cap ring to the same steel-nib pen.
Is a steel-nib Sailor worth it over a gold-nib one?
It is a cheaper way into Sailor's full-size pen. A Goulet customer review praises the fine, slightly dry extra-fine nib with gentle feedback; we haven't compared it with a 14k Sailor ourselves yet.
