Notes on these facts
Made by OHTO Co., Ltd. (Japan). Made in Japan: Unsharpen lists Japan as the country of origin, and Pen Heaven says the cap is marked 'Tasche FF10-T OHTO JAPAN'. Pen Heaven says the nib itself is made by Schmidt in Germany. OHTO's current Japanese and English catalogs don't list the Tasche, so we found no maker statement. Source. Price: example listing.
Colors: names per Pen Heaven, checked October 24, 2026. Pen Heaven lists the blue Tasche with one black ink cartridge. Unsharpen's pen database also lists silver, black and pink, which we couldn't confirm at OHTO or a retailer. Tints were sampled from Pen Heaven's product photo; the cartridge tint from the black cartridge in OHTO's photo on its FCR-6 cartridge page. Tints are representative, not measured. Shops stock different colors.

What is the OHTO Tasche?
The Tasche is OHTO’s pocket fountain pen: a short aluminum pen with a long cap that slides onto the back to make it full length. Tasche is the German word for pocket, and the cap is marked “Tasche FF10-T OHTO JAPAN”, per Pen Heaven.
Unsharpen describes it as light and quite small when capped, then surprisingly long with the cap posted. The Well-Appointed Desk reviewed it in 2012, and Drop sold it in pen-and-pencil sets.

How small is it, capped and posted?
At 99 mm capped it is shorter than most pocket fountain pens, and at 146 mm posted it is as long as a full-size pen. The trick is the cap: it covers most of the pen, so the body inside is only 85 mm long.
Posting the long cap adds 61 mm to the Tasche.
What ink does the Tasche take?
One short international cartridge at a time. Unsharpen notes that the small barrel only holds one, so ink capacity is limited, and Pen Heaven says no converter it sells fits.
You can still use bottled ink by refilling an empty short cartridge with a blunt syringe. Our how to fill a fountain pen guide shows the method.
How does the Tasche compare with other pocket fountain pens?
It is the lightest of the common pocket pens and posts to a longer writing length than most, but it has the smallest ink supply.
Kaweco figures come from our guides to those pens. The Sport is the easier pen to buy and refill in the US; the Tasche writes longer when posted. Our best pocket pens roundup compares more options.
Who should buy a Tasche?
People who want a real fountain pen in a shirt pocket or a small bag, and don’t mind changing cartridges often. At 7.0 g it is easy to forget it’s there, and posted it writes like a full-size pen.
People who write pages every day will find the single short cartridge limiting. They may prefer a full-size pen with a converter.
Is the OHTO Tasche still made?
OHTO’s current catalogs don’t list it, so treat it as hard to find. OHTO’s Japanese and English sites show only the FF01 and FF02 fountain pens in October 2026, and Pen Heaven’s blue Tasche was out of stock when we checked.
Unsharpen still listed it as sold, and some shops have remaining stock. If you find one, check the nib size in the listing, because shops disagree between fine and medium.
Where is the OHTO Tasche made?
Unsharpen lists Japan, and the cap is marked OHTO JAPAN. The steel nib is a German Schmidt nib, according to Pen Heaven. Our OHTO history covers the company behind it.
Frequently asked questions
How long is the OHTO Tasche when posted?
About 14.6 cm (5.7 in), per Unsharpen, against 9.9 cm (3.9 in) capped. The Well-Appointed Desk measured almost 5.75 inches posted in 2012.
Does the OHTO Tasche take a converter?
No. Pen Heaven says the barrel is too small for any converter it sells, so you use short international cartridges, one at a time.
What nib does the Tasche have?
A steel nib. Pen Heaven says it is a German nib made by Schmidt, sold in medium; Unsharpen lists fine. Check the listing before you buy.
Is the OHTO Tasche discontinued?
OHTO's current Japanese and English catalogs don't list it, and stock at the shops we checked was patchy in October 2026. Some retailers still sell remaining pens.
Can I use any ink in the Tasche?
Any short international cartridge fits, including cartridges you refill from a bottle with a syringe. Avoid long cartridges; they won't fit the barrel.
Is the OHTO Tasche good for beginners?
It works, but a full-size pen with a converter, such as a Pilot Kakuno, is easier to start with. The Tasche suits people who want a fountain pen in a shirt pocket.
Is the OHTO Tasche made in the USA?
No. Unsharpen lists Japan as its country of origin and the cap is marked OHTO JAPAN; the nib is a German Schmidt nib, per Pen Heaven.
