Notes on these facts
Made by Platinum Pen Co., Ltd. (Tokyo). Country of manufacture not stated: Platinum's Japanese and English Plaisir pages don't state the country of manufacture, and the Amazon US listing we read doesn't either. Platinum is a Tokyo company; check the box. Price: example listing. Released: Platinum's centenary history lists 2010 for 'Slip & Seal mechanism, Plaisir fountain pen launched'.
Colors: names per Platinum Japan, checked October 24, 2026. Seven PGB-1000 colors per Platinum Japan, which says pink, violet and green come only with the fine (03) nib and a black cartridge is included. The pale PGB-1000B and blasted PGB-1500 versions are separate models. Tints were sampled from Platinum's product photos; the cartridge tint from the ink in Platinum's photo of its black bottled ink, because the black cartridge photo is tinted by its packaging. Tints are representative, not measured. Shops stock different colors.

What is the Platinum Plaisir?
It is Platinum’s entry-level metal fountain pen: an anodized aluminum body, a stainless steel nib and the Slip & Seal cap that stops ink drying out. The name is French for pleasure, and Platinum sums it up in English as “robust yet fragile, full-fledged yet simple.”
Platinum’s centenary history dates both the Plaisir and the Slip & Seal mechanism to 2010, which makes it the first pen to carry the airtight cap that later spread to the Preppy and the #3776 Century.

What does Slip & Seal do?
A spring-loaded inner cap presses against the pen when you close it, sealing the nib so the ink stays wet. Platinum says the pen still writes after a year with the cap on, even unused.
Platinum says ordinary fountain pens dry out after 3 to 6 months unused, as our Platinum history explains. For a pen you keep in a drawer or use only now and then, that seal matters more than the nib.
What colors and versions are there?
Three versions: the PGB-1000 in seven colors, the PGB-1000B in two pale finishes, and the PGB-1500 with a blasted finish.

How does the Plaisir write?
Platinum uses a stainless steel nib with a special alloy point that it says resists wear, so the pen stands up to a lot of writing. The 03 is a Japanese fine; see Japanese vs Western nib sizes for how that compares.
The metal body adds weight over a plastic pen without making it heavy, at 15.4 g in all.
How does the Plaisir compare with other starter fountain pens?
It’s the metal-bodied step up from a Preppy, at a similar price to a Pilot Metropolitan.
Figures for the other pens come from their guides. Pick the Plaisir if you want a durable metal pen that won’t dry out between uses.
Who should buy the Platinum Plaisir?
Anyone who wants a first metal fountain pen that survives a bag and doesn’t punish you for leaving it unused. Students, occasional journalers and people who keep a pen at work for signing are the obvious fits.
If you want an extra-fine nib, the Preppy’s 02 is finer than any Plaisir nib. If you write every day and like a heavier pen, the brass Metropolitan is the other common choice at this price.
Where is the Platinum Plaisir made?
Platinum doesn’t say on its Plaisir pages or in the Amazon US listing we read. Platinum Pen is based in Tokyo; we’ll update this when we can check a box.
Frequently asked questions
How long can a Plaisir sit unused without drying out?
Platinum says the slip seal mechanism keeps the ink moist even if the pen isn't used for a year with the cap closed.
What is the difference between the PGB-1000, PGB-1000B and PGB-1500?
Finish and price. The PGB-1000 and PGB-1000B (Ice White, Frosty Blue) have a dyed anodized finish at ¥1,980 (about US$13); the PGB-1500 has a blasted, anodized finish at ¥2,200 (about US$14).
What nib sizes does the Plaisir come in?
Platinum lists 03 (fine) and 05 (medium) stainless steel nibs. Pink, Violet, Green and Yellow come in fine only, per Platinum's page.
Is the Plaisir a good upgrade from a Platinum Preppy?
It's the same idea in a metal body: a steel nib, Slip & Seal and Platinum cartridges, but heavier and more durable. Platinum says the metal body resists abrasion for long use.
Does the Plaisir come with ink?
Yes. Platinum lists one black ink cartridge as the included accessory.
Is the Plaisir made in Japan?
Platinum doesn't say on the pages we read. It is a Tokyo company's pen, but check the box for the country of manufacture.
