It is a slim aluminum multi pen from Sailor with black and red ballpoints and a 0.5 mm mechanical pencil, selected by twisting the barrel. Its full Japanese name is ペンシエロ ヴェリタS（2色ボールペン+シャープペンシル）, model 16-0392.
Pensiero is Sailor’s gift-pen series. Sailor says the name is Italian for thoughtfulness or a small gift, Verita means truth, and the S stands for Speciale; the S models add gold-colored metal parts.

What refills does it take?
Sailor’s 18-0103 oil-based ballpoint refill, a short multi-pen refill 67 mm long and 2.3 mm across. Sailor sells it at ¥330 (about US$2.10) per pack in black 0.5, 0.7 and 1.0 mm, red 0.7 mm and blue 0.7 mm, so you can swap the red for blue or change the black’s width.
The pencil takes standard 0.5 mm lead, and the eraser under the end cap is replaceable (24-0015-005). Sailor doesn’t say whether other makers’ refills of the same size fit; 67 mm × 2.3 mm is close to the common D1 multi-pen size, but we haven’t tried one.
Who is it for?
Someone who wants a metal gift pen that still works as a daily office tool. If you mark up documents in red and take notes in black or pencil, it replaces three pens. If you want gel ink or four colors, look at a plastic multi pen instead.
Why did it win the Bungu-ya-san Taishō?

Not from a US store as of October 23, 2026. Our Amazon.com search found only the older single-color Pensiero Verita (16-0390), and a search of JetPens and Goulet Pens found no Pensiero listing. Sailor’s Japanese online shop and Japanese retailers sell it, so a proxy service is the route; it sits in our $$$ band ($20–75).
