What is the Pentel Slicci?

The cap posts firmly, and at 9 g the pen is light even with the cap on the end. The clear barrel lets you watch the ink level, which matters on a pen you can’t refill.
The Slicci's 0.25 mm ball against wider tips, and the 0.8 mm Slicci Metallic.
How fine is a 0.25 mm line in practice?
Fine enough for small planner boxes, Bible margins and detailed lettering, but expect a little feedback on the page. Very small balls feel scratchier than 0.5 mm ones, and the needle tip helps you see exactly where the line lands.
JetPens says the Slicci writes much like the Pilot Hi-Tec-C, and that the slightly wider Pilot Juice Up at 0.3 mm is more consistent. One JetPens reviewer found the Slicci line closer to 0.3 to 0.4 mm, so treat 0.25 mm as the tip size rather than a promise of line width.
What colors does the Slicci come in?
Pentel of America lists eight colors of the 0.25 mm pen: black, red, blue, green, orange, pink, baby blue and violet. Its own store sells singles in black, blue, green and baby blue, plus an 8-pack with all eight.
JetPens has imported more shades over the years, such as dark green, brown and midnight blue, and sold 5- and 15-color sets. Those are Japanese-market pens, so availability changes; the eight Pentel Arts colors are the reliable ones in the US.
Is the Slicci Metallic the same pen?
It shares the name and the clear capped body idea, but it is a different pen with a 0.8 mm needle tip. The Slicci Metallic BG208 uses permanent, water-resistant metallic gel ink that Pentel says “pops” on dark paper.
Pentel of America sells it in gold, silver, red, blue, green, bronze, pink and violet metallic, and also makes it in Japan. For white-on-black writing, compare it with the Sakura Gelly Roll.
How does the Slicci compare with other fine gel pens?
It is the cheapest capped 0.25 mm option in US stores; the others take refills and add a click mechanism.
Figures for the other pens come from their guides. If you want the finest line on a budget, the Slicci is easy to try; if you plan to use a pen for years, a refillable body costs less over time.
Who should buy the Pentel Slicci?
Crafters, journalers and anyone who writes very small and wants a gel line, not a fineliner. It suits annotating textbooks, tiny planner squares and adding detail to drawings.
Heavy-handed writers may prefer a cushioned pen such as the Sarasa Nano, and left-handers should test drying time on their usual paper. For a wider choice of everyday gel pens, see our best gel pens.
Where is the Pentel Slicci made?
In Japan, according to Pentel of America’s product catalog. That covers both the 0.25 mm Slicci and the Slicci Metallic sold in the US under the Pentel Arts name.
Pentel is a Japanese company; since April 1, 2026 the Tokyo parent has been called ASTRUM Corporation, with Pentel kept as the brand.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Pentel Slicci refillable?
Pentel of America calls the single 0.25 mm Slicci nonrefillable and lists no refill in its 2022 catalog. Some JetPens listings for imported colors say refillable, so check the listing for the exact pen.
Does the Slicci write a true 0.25 mm line?
The 0.25 mm figure is the tip size. Pentel of America says approx. 0.25 mm line width; one JetPens reviewer found it writes closer to a 0.3 to 0.4 mm Hi-Tec-C. We'll measure it in our own test.
Is the Slicci good for Bible journaling and crafts?
Pentel of America markets it for embellishing paper, cardstock, tags and memory books, and says the gel ink is acid-free. Test on thin Bible paper first, since wet gel ink can show through.
What is the Slicci Metallic?
A sister pen, the BG208, with a 0.8 mm needle tip and metallic gel ink that Pentel says shows on dark paper. Pentel of America sells it in gold, silver and six metallic colors.
Slicci or Pilot Hi-Tec-C: which is finer?
Both come in 0.25 mm. JetPens says the writing is very similar; the Hi-Tec-C has more colors and takes refills, the Slicci is the easier one to find in US stores.
Is the Pentel Slicci made in the USA?
No. Pentel of America's catalog gives Japan as the origin, even for the Pentel Arts packs sold in US stores.
