Colors: names per Pure Pens, checked October 24, 2026. Six colors sold by Pure Pens, a UK pen shop, each with silver trim and a medium nib; Pure Pens says cartridges aren't included. We found no Jinhao shop listing colors, and marketplace listings show many more. Tints were sampled from Pure Pens' product photos. Tints are representative, not measured. Shops stock different colors.

What is the Jinhao 82?
It is a low-cost acrylic fountain pen from the Chinese maker Jinhao, with a screw cap, a #5 steel nib and a converter for bottled ink. It comes in a long list of colors, from transparent demonstrators to two-tone pastel and sparkly finishes.
One fountain pen reviewer describes it as a homage to the Sailor Pro Gear Slim, which it resembles in shape. On Amazon US it is one of the best-selling fountain pens: a single listing was #26 in the Fountain Pens category on October 22, 2026, and four more Jinhao 82 listings were in the top 80.

All values come from the Amazon US listing sold by Wikult. Jinhao doesn’t publish its own spec page that we could find, so treat these as one seller’s figures.
Posting the cap adds 30 mm, from 112 to 142 mm.
What nibs does the Jinhao 82 have?
A #5 steel nib in extra fine, fine or medium, and more recently a bent fude nib for line variation. The listing gives about 0.38 mm for EF, 0.5 mm for F and 0.7 mm for M; we’ll check those widths against Japanese nibs in our own test.
The fude nib is bent at the tip, so the line gets wider as you lower the pen, the same idea as the Sailor Fude de Mannen.
How does the Jinhao 82 fill?
With the converter that comes installed in the barrel, or with small international cartridges. The listing says the pen takes 2.6 mm caliber cartridges, so the common short international cartridges from many brands should fit; most listings don’t include any.
A converter means you can use any bottled fountain pen ink, which is the main reason people pick the 82 over a cartridge-only pen. Flush it with water when you change colors.
If you want a bigger tank instead, the Chinese brand Asvine sells built-in fillers with large #8 nibs on Amazon: the acrylic Asvine V800 vacuum filler and the titanium Asvine P100 piston filler.
Is the Jinhao 82 good quality for the price?
Reviewers generally say yes for the price, with two caveats: the trim and the threads. One owner of three 82s found no rough spots, a wet and consistent flow and no leaks, but felt the gold-tone trim looked less rich than real gold and worried the screw threads might be delicate.
Quality control can vary between sellers and batches, so buy from a seller with a clear return policy.
How does the Jinhao 82 compare with other budget fountain pens?
It gives you a converter and a screw cap for about the price of a cartridge pen, but without a maker’s spec sheet or warranty.
Figures for the other pens come from their guides. If you want proven specs and wide availability, the Preppy and Kakuno are easier recommendations; the 82 is the pick if you want a converter, a screw cap and a bright acrylic body for little money. For a step up in bold resins, the BENU Euphoria adds a German #6 Schmidt nib and can be filled as an eyedropper.
Where is the Jinhao 82 made?
Jinhao doesn’t say in any source we could read. The Amazon US listing describes Jinhao as a Chinese pen maker founded in 1988 but doesn’t name the country of manufacture, so check the box when it arrives.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Jinhao 82 come with ink?
Usually not. The Amazon US listing ships it with a converter installed and no cartridges, for shipping safety, so buy a bottle of ink or 2.6 mm cartridges with it.
What cartridges fit the Jinhao 82?
The listing says 2.6 mm caliber cartridges, the small international standard size, or bottled ink through the included converter.
Is the Jinhao 82 a copy of the Sailor Pro Gear Slim?
Its flat-ended, cigar shape and two-tone nib look much like the Sailor, and one reviewer calls it a homage. The Sailor has a gold nib and costs many times more.
Can you use shimmer ink in a Jinhao 82?
One reviewer plans to use medium-nib 82s for shimmer inks. Shimmer can clog fine nibs, so use a medium and flush the pen often.
Is the Jinhao 82 good for beginners?
It's an inexpensive way to try a screw-cap pen with a converter. A Platinum Preppy or Pilot Kakuno is simpler, with cartridges and a maker that publishes specs.
Are the Jinhao 82's cap threads fragile?
A reviewer who owns three worries the threads may be a little delicate and avoids overtightening the cap. We'll check thread wear in our own test.
Is the Jinhao 82 made in China?
Jinhao is a Chinese maker, but the sources we read don't state where the 82 is made, so check the box.
