What is the Sun-Star LAMECO?
The LAMECO (ラメコ) is a “glitter-only” marker from Sun-Star: its ink is clear, with coloured glitter suspended in it. You colour over lettering or a drawing and it gains sparkle while keeping its own colours.
Sun-Star launched it in early February 2026 as a 3-pen set of gold, silver and pink glitter. The name plays on ラメ (rame), the Japanese word for glitter.
Japanese shop staff named it the color-pen winner (カラーペン賞) of the Bungu-ya-san Taishō 2026, Fusosha’s annual stationery award.

How does a clear glitter marker work?
The ink dries clear, so only the glitter stays visible on top of whatever is underneath. Sun-Star says that lets you add sparkle to an illustration without losing its original colours.
Its suggested uses are decorating planners, memos and cards, and making everyday drawings look more expensive. The marker tip handles both lines and filled areas, and Sun-Star says each colour is bright enough to use alone or layered.
Because it is water-based pigment ink, plan to let it dry before you close a planner page on it. Sun-Star doesn’t give a drying time.
Which colour should you start with?
Sun-Star says each of the three glitters shows well on its own, and you can also layer them. Gold suits warm colours and lettering, silver cool colours and night scenes, and pink cute illustrations and hearts, though that is our suggestion rather than Sun-Star’s.
Because the set is only sold as three, you get all of them anyway. The pens come in a clear PET case with a hanging header, 65 × 160 × 15 mm and about 57 g packed, per Sun-Star.
How does the LAMECO compare with other glitter and metallic markers?
The LAMECO is the only one of these whose ink adds no colour of its own. Metallic and glitter gel pens put down a coloured line; the LAMECO is a top coat.
For coloured highlighting under the glitter, a Zebra Mildliner is a common partner in planners.
Can you buy the LAMECO in the US?
Yes: JetPens listed the 3-color set in stock on October 23, 2026, at a price in our $ band (under $5 a pen). We found no Amazon.com listing that day. JetPens files it under model number S4544820.
In Japan it sells at stationery shops and online at ¥1,320 (about US$8.40) for the set, Sun-Star’s list price.
Where is the Sun-Star LAMECO made?
In China, according to Sun-Star’s Japanese product page. Sun-Star itself is a Tokyo stationery company, which also won this year’s idea award with its UFO flat pouch.
Frequently asked questions
Does LAMECO ink change the colour of what's under it?
Sun-Star says no: the ink itself is transparent and only the coloured glitter shows, so the original colours of an illustration stay as they were with sparkle on top.
What colours does the Sun-Star LAMECO come in?
Three glitter colours, gold, silver and pink, sold together as one 3-pen set. Sun-Star doesn't list single pens.
How much is the LAMECO set in Japan?
Sun-Star's list price is ¥1,320 (about US$8.40) with tax for the 3-pen set, about ¥440 (about US$2.80) a pen.
What kind of ink is in LAMECO markers?
Sun-Star lists a water-based pigment ink that is transparent, with coloured glitter mixed in. The body is polypropylene.
Can you use LAMECO on dark paper?
Sun-Star doesn't say. Because the ink is clear, the glitter is what shows, so try it on a scrap of your dark paper first.
Where can I buy the LAMECO in the US?
JetPens listed the 3-color set in stock on October 23, 2026. We didn't find it on Amazon.com.
