What is the Magna Carta Mag 600?

It’s a large resin fountain pen built around a soft, highly flexible 14k gold nib, the kind most modern pens no longer offer. Magna Carta calls it the True Flex nib and pairs it with an ebonite feed that can keep up with wide strokes.

Galen Leather says the design is inspired by 1920s hard-rubber pens, with a riveted clip, and that Magna Carta unveiled the Mag 600 in 2023. Interest is rising: on October 22, 2026 Goulet’s exclusive Mag 600 Azure was 23rd on its best-seller list.

How flexible is the True Flex nib?

Very: Galen says it starts at extra fine and opens to about triple broad under pressure, like a vintage flexible gold nib. That range is what lets it draw thin upstrokes and thick, swelling downstrokes in copperplate-style writing.

Galen also warns that flex writing takes effort and patience and may not suit everyone, and that gold flex nibs are harder to make and more prone to defects, so Galen inspects each pen before it ships.

How do you fill and care for the Mag 600?

Use cartridges, the converter or eyedropper filling, and let the ebonite feed soak. Galen says to fill by immersing the whole nib in the bottle and leaving the feed there for a while, so the ebonite absorbs ink before you write.

Magna Carta says it makes its ebonite feeds in-house. If you’d rather use a firm nib some days, Galen says the housing takes JoWo #6 nibs; our fountain pen nib sizes guide explains flex and stub nibs.

Which Mag 600 should you choose?

Choose the gold nib for real flex, or the Mag 600 S if you want a cheaper way to try it. Magna Carta’s own shop listed both on October 22, 2026.

  • Mag 600: #6 14k gold True Flex nib, 24K PVD gold trim, from US$385 to US$550 depending on the material (resin, ebonite, copper or titanium).
  • Mag 600 S: #6 F-Flex stainless steel nib on the same body, from US$250 (aluminium) to US$330.
  • Goulet Azure: a Goulet-only special edition in stacked blue and black resin with the 14k nib.

How does it compare with other soft-nib pens?

It flexes much further than Pilot’s soft nibs, and it’s a bigger, heavier pen. Figures for the Falcon come from our guide.

The Falcon is the safer choice for everyday writing with a little bounce. The Mag 600 is for people who want vintage-style line variation; for broad-edge lettering instead, see our calligraphy pens for beginners.

Where is the Magna Carta Mag 600 made?

In India, by Magna Carta’s own workshop, according to Galen and the maker. Galen describes Magna Carta as an Indian manufacturer that makes its pens, nibs and resins in-house. Magna Carta says its roots are in western India and that from 2026 its headquarters, design and some assembly are in the United States, so check the box on newer pens.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Magna Carta Mag 600 a real flex nib?

Magna Carta calls it a True Flex nib and Galen compares it to vintage flexible gold nibs, spreading from about EF to BBB. It needs a light, controlled hand, and Galen warns that flex writing takes patience.

How do you fill a Magna Carta Mag 600?

With a standard international cartridge, the included converter, or as an eyedropper. Galen advises dipping the whole nib in the bottle when filling so the ebonite feed soaks up ink.

Can you post the Mag 600 cap?

Not recommended. Goulet lists it as not postable, and Galen says the cap will post but the pen is balanced to write without it.

What is the Mag 600 S?

The steel-nib version. Magna Carta's shop describes the Mag 600 S with a handcrafted #6 F-Flex stainless steel nib on the same Mag 600 body, at a lower price.

Can you put a JoWo nib in the Mag 600?

Galen says the nib housing is compatible with JoWo nibs, so a standard #6 JoWo unit should fit if you want a firm nib.

Is the Magna Carta Mag 600 good for beginners?

Usually not as a first pen. Galen says flex writing takes effort and patience, and Goulet's six reviews of the Azure average 3.33 out of 5, so try a firm nib first.

Is Magna Carta an Indian company?

It began in India. Magna Carta says its roots are in western India, and from 2026 its headquarters, sales, design and some assembly are in the United States.
