Notes on these facts
Made by Montblanc-Simplo GmbH (Hamburg, Germany), part of Richemont since 1993. Country of manufacture not stated: Montblanc's US product pages for the Writers Edition pens we read on October 28, 2026 give size, weight, materials and nib but no country of origin. Montblanc's data for the Meisterstück 149 gives Germany (see our guide to that pen); we don't extend that to every edition. Source. Price: example listing. Released: Montblanc's Writers Edition page says the line has been issued annually since 1992. Montblanc's shop pages don't give a year for the five current homages.
Price bands are typical US retail, checked October 2026.

What is the Montblanc Writers Edition?
It is Montblanc’s yearly limited-edition series of pens that pay homage to famous authors. Montblanc’s Writers Edition page says it has been issued annually since 1992.
Each homage comes in several tiers, from resin pens to gold-and-gem fountain pens. The standard pen it builds on is the Montblanc Meisterstück 149, and the line sits among the most collectible pens.
Which Writers Edition homages are on sale now?
Montblanc’s US shop lists five: Bram Stoker, the Brothers Grimm, Jane Austen, Robert Louis Stevenson and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. The descriptions are Montblanc’s.
Homage
What Montblanc says it honors
Bram Stoker
Dracula (1897); red resin; a barrel shape that nods to the Pravaz syringe
Brothers Grimm
Folktales; a silhouette like an old hiking stick, thorns from Sleeping Beauty
Jane Austen
The Regency era; a sandstone-grey resin barrel, a clip like a drawstring pouch
Robert Louis Stevenson
Treasure Island; a shape and cone rings like a spyglass
Goethe
Faust, and in the Limited Edition 8 his science; a leaf clip, a nib showing a Faust scene
Which year did each homage come out?
Montblanc doesn’t say: its shop pages give no release year for any of the five. The years in the pen names, such as 1897 or 1808, are years in the author’s life or works, not launch years.
So we can’t give a year-by-year list. The 1992 start is Montblanc’s; the order of the editions since then isn’t on the pages we read.
How many were made?
Montblanc states a size for five numbered pens, and each number matches a year it cites. Stoker 1897 is “limited to precisely 1897 pieces”, Goethe 1808 “just 1808 pieces”, Austen 97 “only 97 pieces”, Stoker 93 “just 93 pieces” and Goethe 88 “precisely 88 pieces”.
For the plain Limited Editions, the Grimm 1812, the Stevenson 94 and the two Limited Edition 8 pens, we found no quantity in Montblanc’s text. Don’t assume the number in the name is the size.
Montblanc's text gives a size for five of the nine numbered pens.
What do the Writers Edition pens cost in the US?
On October 28, 2026 Montblanc’s US shop listed them from the ballpoints to a fountain pen with enamel, mother-of-pearl and diamonds. That is our $$$$ band, over $75 per pen. Montblanc marks the Stoker 93 and 8 as Boutique Exclusive.

How is the Patron of Art different?
It is a sibling series, also annual since 1992, that honors promoters of art movements. Montblanc says every Patron of Art Edition since 1995 comes in two limited versions: Limitation 4810, named after the height of Mont Blanc, and Limitation 888, for the lucky number eight in Asia.
Its US shop listed two pens on October 28, 2026, both for Moctezuma I. Montblanc’s sentence explains the names; it doesn’t say outright that they are piece counts.
Where can you find older Writers Editions?
Montblanc’s shop shows only the five current homages, and we found no official archive of past editions. The pages offer a boutique availability check, but we can’t point you to a maker list for 1992 onward.
Second-hand sellers are the usual route, and we didn’t check their prices or authenticity. Montblanc’s pages give an Ident No., such as MB133418M, but no guide to spotting a fake, so ask for the exact edition name and size.
How do you care for a Writers Edition?
Montblanc recommends cleaning a fountain pen every three months and having it professionally cleaned once a year. For a piston pen it says to rinse the nib in clean lukewarm water three to five times until it runs clear, then dry the nib and the inside of the cap.
Keep it away from perfume, detergent and hand sanitizer, which Montblanc says can damage precious resin, and store it in a pen pouch.
Frequently asked questions
How often does Montblanc release a Writers Edition?
Annually, says Montblanc: its Writers Edition page says it has been issued each year since 1992. We found no official list of all past editions, and its shop pages for the current five homages give no release years.
What is the difference between the Writers Edition and Patron of Art?
Both are annual Montblanc series issued since 1992. The Writers Edition honors authors. Montblanc says the Patron of Art focuses on promoters of artistic movements and, since 1995, comes in two limited versions named Limitation 4810 and Limitation 888.
Which Writers Edition pen costs least?
The ballpoints. On October 28, 2026 Montblanc's US shop listed the Stoker, Goethe and Stevenson ballpoints at one price, the lowest we found among Writers Edition pens; the rollerballs cost a little more, and the table shows the fountain pens.
What nib does a Montblanc Writers Edition have?
A solid Au 750 gold nib, per Montblanc, with special decoration. The Stoker's is embossed and ruthenium-coated, and the Goethe 1808's shows a scene from Faust after an illustration by Eugène Delacroix.
Where is the Montblanc Writers Edition made?
Montblanc's Writers Edition pages don't say. We didn't find a country of origin on any of them, so we haven't assumed one; its data for the Meisterstück 149 gives Germany.
Can hand sanitizer damage a Montblanc resin pen?
Yes, Montblanc warns: products containing solvents, such as perfumes, detergents and hand sanitizers, may damage the precious resin. It recommends wiping the pen with a soft dry cloth.
Does Montblanc number each Writers Edition pen?
Montblanc's pages we read state sizes but say nothing about individual numbering. Each shows an Ident No. such as MB133418M, which looks like a product code shared by the whole edition, not a serial number.
