What does the Synergy Tip change?
It lets a 0.4 mm ball write a fine line without the scratchy, skipping feel of very fine erasable pens. Pilot describes it as a blend of a pipe tip, which supports the ball at a point for fine writing, and a cone tip, which is sturdier.
The pipe is thicker toward the back, which Pilot says strengthens the point and widens the ink path, so the ink starts quickly. It is the same idea as the tip on the Pilot Juice+ , here with erasable ink.
How does it compare with other FriXion pens?
It is the Synergy Tip multi-pen of the range: three colors where the Synergy Knock has one, and no permanent ink, unlike the Ball Switch.

How do you erase and refill it?
Rub with the elastomer tip on the end, and swap in LFRF-243 refills when the ink runs out. FriXion ink contains microcapsules that turn colorless at around 60 °C or above, so friction heat from the rubber erases it; Pilot notes the writing can return at around -10 °C.
Pilot warns against using FriXion ink for certificates, addresses or anything that must stay. If you need a permanent black in the same pen, the FriXion Ball Switch adds one.
Mitsubishi Pencil’s rival 3-color erasable, the metal-gripped uni-ball R:E3 BIZ , uses the same 60 °C trigger but is now discontinued, so the Synergy 3 is the one to buy new.
