Notes on these facts
Made by Société BIC (France); sold in the US by BIC Corporation. Made in Japan: OnTimeSupplies lists Japan for the assorted dozen RGLCG11AST, which we read in full, and PartsSource lists Japan for the black dozen RGLCG11-BK. BIC's own pages don't state it. Source. Price: example listing.
Colors: names per BIC North America, checked October 24, 2026. The 17 ink colors BIC North America names for the 0.7 mm Gelocity Quick Dry. BIC's page shows only a blue pen, so tints were sampled from Office Depot's photos: the barrels in its photo of the 16-color pack (RGLCGA16-AST), which holds every color but black, matched to names using its 8-pack listing (which calls light green lime green), and the ink dot on its black 12-count box (RGLCG11-BLK) for black. Tints are representative, not measured. Shops stock different colors.
Price bands are typical US retail, checked October 2026.

What is the BIC Gel-ocity Quick Dry?
It’s BIC’s quick-drying retractable gel pen: a 0.7 mm medium point, a round barrel covered in rubber grip from end to end, and ink BIC says dries in as little as five seconds. BIC sells it alongside the original Gel-ocity, and markets the Quick Dry to left-handed writers and fast note-takers. BIC grew from Marcel Bich’s 1944 parts workshop in Clichy and the 1950 Cristal, as our BIC history explains.
It’s one of the best-selling gel pens in the US. On October 22, 2026, Amazon ranked the black 12-pack #24 in all Pens & Refills and #15 in Rollerball Pens, with 22,315 ratings averaging 4.8 stars.

Is the Gel-ocity Quick Dry good for left-handed writers?
BIC and its retailers pitch it that way: the ink dries in as little as five seconds, so a trailing hand is less likely to smear it. Office Depot calls it “a smart choice for left-handed writers”, and a Kroger listing adds that the ink dries faster than the Pilot G2. Both claims come from BIC’s copy; BIC doesn’t publish a test method.
Five seconds is still not instant. On coated or very smooth paper gel ink stays wet longer, so left-handers who write fast may still want a gap between lines. Our best pens for left-handed writers compares other quick-drying picks.
How wide a line does the 0.7 mm tip write?
About 0.3 mm, according to Swiss retailer Post CH: less than half the 0.7 mm ball size printed on the pen. The number on a gel pen is the ball diameter, not the line. Paper, pressure and ink flow all change the result, so treat 0.3 mm as a guide.
A 0.7 mm ball, a 0.3 mm line: the tip size is not the line width.
Can you refill the Gel-ocity Quick Dry?
Yes, according to Office Depot and Post CH, which both list it as refillable, and Belgian retailer Bruneau sells Gel-ocity Quick Dry refills in packs of 2. Bruneau’s instructions are to unscrew the tip, swap the empty cartridge, and remove the wax ball from the new refill’s point.
US stores rarely stock the refill, so in practice most American buyers replace the pen. OnTimeSupplies’ listings don’t mention refills.
How does it compare with the Pilot G2 and other quick-dry gel pens?
It sits with the Pilot G2 as a cheap, widely sold retractable gel pen, but sells itself on speed of drying, like the Zebra Sarasa Dry and Pentel EnerGel.

If you want one size and fast drying, the Gel-ocity is the simplest choice; if you want a finer point, the G2 and Sarasa Dry offer 0.5 mm or smaller. BIC’s best-known pen is still the ballpoint BIC Cristal. If you’d rather have a retractable 0.7 mm gel pen with a silent click and a pastel barrel, see the Amazon-first Writech Nebula.
Where is the BIC Gel-ocity Quick Dry made?
US business suppliers list the Gel-ocity Quick Dry as made in Japan. OnTimeSupplies gives Japan for the assorted dozen (RGLCG11AST) and PartsSource for the black dozen (RGLCG11-BK). That differs from the BIC Cristal, which BIC says it makes in its own factories in France, Brazil, Mexico and South Africa; BIC doesn’t say who makes the Gel-ocity.
Frequently asked questions
What colors does the Gel-ocity Quick Dry come in?
Black, blue and red in US dozens, plus fashion assortments. Office Depot's 8-pack lists dark purple, turquoise, green, lime green, light orange, orange, pink and dark pink.
How many pens come in a pack?
US packs we saw run from 4 to 48: Walmart sells a 4-count, Office Depot an 8-pack, office suppliers a dozen, and BIC's US store has listed a 48-count black pack.
Is the Gel-ocity Quick Dry smear-resistant once dry?
Office Depot's listing calls the lines smear-resistant. BIC doesn't claim water or fade resistance in the sources we read, so don't use it where that matters.
Who makes BIC pens?
Société BIC, a French company founded by Marcel Bich, best known for the BIC Cristal. BIC Corporation sells its pens in the US.
How much does a Gel-ocity Quick Dry cost?
It's in our lowest $ band, under $5 per pen, in the usual 4- to 12-packs.
Is the Gel-ocity Quick Dry sold outside the US?
Yes. BIC's UK and French sites list it as the Gel-ocity Quick Dry in 0.7 mm, Swiss retailer Post CH sells it in boxes of 12, and Officeworks sells it in Australia.
