What is the HEXO’s nib like?
A stainless steel nib in four widths, EF to B, partly blackened on some colors. Faber-Castell’s German page lists EF, F, M and B, and the matte black version has a black steel nib.
Amazon’s listing for the matte black EF says the nib has a special edge design for precise detail work. Faber-Castell doesn’t publish nib dimensions, so if you are choosing between widths, our guide to fountain pen nib sizes explains what EF to B mean on paper.

“Not listed” means we didn’t find that page, not that it can’t exist. For small handwriting or planners, EF or F keeps lines thin; M and B suit larger writing and show more ink shading.
How does the HEXO fill with ink?
With standard cartridges or a converter. Faber-Castell ships it with one ink cartridge and sells cartridges in several colors and a converter separately.
That means you can start writing straight away and switch to bottled ink later. The converter isn’t in the box, so add one to your order if you plan to use bottled ink.
How does the HEXO compare with other aluminum pens?
It’s the six-sided option among the common aluminum starter pens; the LAMY AL-star and Kaweco AL Sport are the usual alternatives.
If you want Faber-Castell in plastic, the Grip 2010 fountain pen costs less and has a dotted grip.
Is the HEXO comfortable to write with?
Faber-Castell calls it especially light for fatigue-free writing. Amazon’s listing adds that it balances with or without the cap posted and has an ergonomically shaped grip zone for right- and left-handed writers.
Buyer comments are split on the light weight: one Pen Heaven reviewer found it too light and cheap-feeling, another liked it posted and unposted. At 19 g it’s lighter than many metal pens, so try one if you prefer a heavy pen; Faber-Castell’s e-motion Pure Silver ballpoint is listed at 46 g.
Where is the Faber-Castell HEXO made?
In Europe, Faber-Castell says, without naming the country. Its German HEXO page states “Hergestellt wird er in Europa,” made in Europe.
The brand is German, based in Stein near Nuremberg. Check the box or barrel for the exact country.
