How does the see-through tip help?
You can see exactly where a word ends, so you start and stop the stroke on the right letter. With an ordinary felt chisel, the tip covers the text you are about to mark, and highlights tend to run over.
The chisel works two ways. Held flat, it covers a full line of text; turned on its narrow edge, it draws a thin underline, which Sharpie calls switching between wide and narrow lines.
Does the Clear View smear pen ink?
Sharpie says the ink resists smearing many pen and marker inks, as long as you let your writing dry first. Gel and fountain pen ink are the usual trouble spots for any water-based highlighter.
We haven’t tested this yet. If you highlight fresh handwriting often, a dry gel highlighter avoids the problem altogether.

Does the Sharpie Clear View bleed through paper?
It can on thin paper, because it is a liquid highlighter and Sharpie makes no no-bleed claim for it. On ordinary 75–90 gsm printer paper it is made for everyday use.
