Which finishes does the Dorsal Fin 2 come in?
Nine, in three techniques. Tame-nuri gives Kuro-tame, Aka-tame, Heki-tame and Toki-tame. Ishime, which Nakaya makes by sprinkling dry lacquer powder on wet lacquer, layering and polishing it into a cobblestone texture, gives Midori Ishime, Kuro-tame Ishime, Heki-tame Ishime and Kikyo Ishime; a fifth Ishime uses roasted tin powder over black lacquer for a silver look.

Why don’t the fins always line up?
Nakaya fits a four-start thread, so the cap can close in four positions. Its FAQ says that if the Dorsal Fin 2’s fins don’t match, you rotate the pen to a different starting position until they do, and that the pen works either way.
