What is the Sakura Ball Sign Tiara Knock?

It is a glitter pen from Sakura Color Products: a clear-barreled, click-action pen whose water-based ink has glitter flakes mixed in. Sakura says the flakes give lines “the sparkle of jewels and cosmetics”, and the ten color names, from Garnet Rose to Turquoise Blue, are gemstone names.

The Tiara line used to be a cap-type pen. Sakura says it moved to a knock mechanism, which makes it easier to use. The Japanese catalog files it with the Ball Sign Knock pens, next to the Sugar Knock.

All figures come from Sakura’s Japanese product pages, read November 2, 2026. Sakura’s single-pen page lists the specs of one representative color and says so.

Which colors does it come in?

Ten, all named for gemstones. Garnet Rose, Amethyst Purple, Aquamarine Blue, Diamond Silver, Emerald Green, Pearl Pink, Ruby Red, Sardonyx Orange, Opal Green and Turquoise Blue. Yoseka’s 5-color pack holds the first five of those, and its 10-color pack holds all ten.

Each pen has a clear barrel with a colored ink window and a knock in a lighter tint, so you can tell colors apart before you click. The swatches above are tints sampled from Sakura’s chart, not measurements of the dried ink.

Is it a gel pen or a ballpoint?

Sakura files it as a water-based ballpoint; Yoseka sells it as a gel pen. Both describe a water-based ink and a 0.8 mm ball, so it writes a bold, shiny line rather than a fine one.

For a Sakura gel pen that writes an opaque line on dark paper, see our Sakura Gelly Roll guide. For a fine, plain black Sakura pen, see the Ballsign iD Single.

Single, 5-color pack or 10-color pack?

Buy a pack: it is the only way to get all the colors, and the packs are what US shops stock.

Single 1 145 × 12 mm 8 g ¥220 (about US$1.40) Not listed
5-color pack 5 203 × 73 × 13 mm 44 g ¥1,100 (about US$7) US$15
10-color pack 10 203 × 128 × 13 mm 88 g ¥2,200 (about US$14) US$30

How do you get the glitter to show?

Write slowly, on light paper, with the tip pointing down. Sakura lists four cautions: write only on paper, expect less sparkle on dark paper and other surfaces, write slowly because fast strokes can skip, and don’t write with the tip pointing up. We haven’t tested the pen ourselves, so treat the skipping as Sakura’s warning, not our measurement.

Who is the Tiara Knock for?

It suits anyone who wants a small, light pen for borders, headings and cards. At 145 mm and 8 g it slips into a pocket and a pencil case.

  • Everyday carry: Sakura lists it at 145 mm, so it just fits the 150 mm bar we use for pocket pens.
  • Travel: at 8 g it is easy to pack; the 5-pack is 44 g.

Skip it for fast note-taking or dark paper: Sakura says fast writing can skip and the glitter may not show on dark paper.

Where is the Tiara Knock made?

Sakura doesn’t say. Its product pages list materials, sizes and JAN codes but not the country of manufacture, and Yoseka’s listing doesn’t state it either. Sakura Color Products is a Japanese company.

How much does the Tiara Knock cost?

A single is about US$1.40 in Japan, which would be our $ band, while the US packs sit in $$ and $$$. Sakura’s suggested prices with tax are ¥220 (about US$1.40) for one pen, ¥1,100 (about US$7) for 5 and ¥2,200 (about US$14) for 10.

On November 2, 2026, Yoseka Stationery listed the 5-pack at US$15 and the 10-pack at US$30, about US$3 per pen, about double the Japan price. That puts a pen in our $ band, and the 5-pack in $$. Check a shop’s stock before you plan around a single color.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Sakura Tiara Knock a gel pen?

Sakura's catalog files it under water-based ballpoint pens, and Yoseka Stationery sells it as a gel pen. Both describe a water-based ink; in daily use it writes like a gel pen.

Why is the Tiara Knock sometimes called a CRAY-PAS pen?

Sakura Color Products makes Cray-Pas crayons, and Yoseka's earlier listing for this pen was titled Sakura CRAY-PAS Tiara Gel Pen. Sakura's own product name is Ball Sign Tiara Knock.

Does the glitter show on black paper?

Not reliably. Sakura warns that on dark paper and other surfaces the sparkle can be hard to see, so test on your paper before buying a pack.

Why does my Tiara Knock skip?

Sakura says writing fast can make the line skip, and asks you to write slowly and not point the tip upward.

Can you refill the Tiara Knock?

Sakura's product pages don't mention a refill, and the pen is sold as a complete, disposable pen. If you need a refillable gel pen, look at the Ballsign iD Single.

Where can I buy the Tiara Knock in the US?

Yoseka Stationery listed the 5-pack and 10-pack on November 2, 2026. Yoseka's old single-pen listing was gone by then, so we found no single pen for sale in the US.

Is the Tiara Knock good for journaling?

Yoseka recommends the glitter pens for adding sparkle to artwork. At 0.8 mm the line is bold, so use it for headings, borders and lettering rather than small text.
