Notes on these facts
  • Made by Wahl-Eversharp Company. Country of manufacture not stated: Wahl-Eversharp's product and history pages we could read name no country of manufacture for the revived pens; its service page says some repairs go on to "the factory" without naming it. Price: example listing. Released: Wahl-Eversharp's Decoband news post says the revived Decoband was introduced in 2015; the pens now listed (piston filler, oversized) are later versions, and the pages give no dates for them.
  • Colors: names per Wahl-Eversharp: Decoband collection, checked November 2, 2026. The five Decoband colorways on Wahl-Eversharp's store, named as its product pages name them. Tints are representative, sampled by eye from the maker's product photos; the patterned materials vary across a pen. Tints are representative, not measured. Shops stock different colors.

Key takeaways

  • Wahl-Eversharp lists the Decoband at 149 mm closed, 140 mm with the cap off and 197 mm with the cap posted, with a 16 mm barrel and a 57 g (2.0 oz) weight.
  • It fills by a twist piston, which the maker compares to the Pelikan M800, and carries a 14K gold #8 nib in fine or medium.
  • Five colorways were listed: Tiger Eye and Cracked Ice at $1,190, and Maroon, Green and Blue Ripple Ebonite at $1,195; all showed as sold out on November 2, 2026.
  • The maker's product pages disagree with themselves on material: Tiger Eye and Cracked Ice are named acetate cellulose, yet every spec line says ebonite.
  • Wahl-Eversharp is a brand revived in 2012 by new owners, legally unconnected to the original companies, and it says the Decoband returned in 2015.

What is the Wahl-Eversharp Decoband?

It is an oversized, piston-filled fountain pen that revives a 1929-era design, with a wide Art Deco band on the cap. Wahl-Eversharp says the original line began in 1928 with the Wahl Company’s Oversize Gold Seal Personal Point, which brought an interchangeable nib unit, a lifetime guarantee and the Grecian Border cap band. That band gave the pen its short name, “Decoband.”

The current Wahl-Eversharp Company says that from 2012 two buyers acquired the rights to the old WAHL and EVERSHARP trademarks, and that it is legally unconnected to either of the old companies. It says it introduced the revived Decoband in 2015. We read its store pages on November 2, 2026. For the older pens by the same names, see our best vintage fountain pens.

What are the Decoband’s specs?

It is a large pen: 149 mm closed and 197 mm with the cap posted, 16 mm across the barrel. The maker’s spec lines are the same on all five colorways.

How does the Decoband fill, and what is the nib?

It fills with a twist piston and writes with a 14K gold #8 nib. Wahl-Eversharp’s page calls the filling system “similar to Pelikan M800”, the piston pen in our Pelikan Souverän M800 guide. It states no ink capacity, nib maker, flexibility or tipping material, so we can’t say how it writes. Both sizes, fine and medium, share one price.

The Decoband is much heavier than the Pelikan: 57 g against the M800’s 28.2 g, though Wahl-Eversharp doesn’t say whether its figure includes ink or the cap.

What colors does the Decoband come in?

Five, in two kinds of material. Tiger Eye and Cracked Ice are named acetate cellulose; Maroon, Green and Blue Ripple Ebonite are named ebonite, and they use the same gold trim.

The maker’s pages contradict themselves on material: the spec line on every page, including Tiger Eye and Cracked Ice, says ebonite. We couldn’t resolve it from the store, so the guide’s material field says “ebonite per the spec lines”. Tints on this page are our by-eye samples of the maker’s photos.

Who is the Decoband for?

It suits collectors of revived classic designs who want a large piston-filler.

  • Collecting: Wahl-Eversharp says the oversized Decoband recaptures a design first introduced in 1929, and that the revived Decoband came back in 2015.

Skip it if you need to buy one this month: every colorway showed as sold out on the maker’s store on November 2, 2026.

What does the Decoband cost, and can you buy one?

Wahl-Eversharp prices the Decoband in our $$$$ band (over $75), with the two acetate-named colorways listed slightly below the three ebonite ones. On November 2, 2026 its store marked all five colorways, in both nib sizes, as unavailable. The price is the maker’s own listing.

Where is the Decoband made, and who services it?

The maker doesn’t say where it is made. None of the product or history pages we read names a country of manufacture, so we’ve recorded “Not stated” rather than guess. Its service page says repairs are evaluated in the order requests arrive, with a written reply in 5 to 10 business days, and that a typical turnaround is about 5 weeks. A repair sent on to the factory can take much longer.

Frequently asked questions

How big is the Wahl-Eversharp Decoband?

Wahl-Eversharp lists 149 mm (5.85 in) closed, 140 mm (5.5 in) with the cap off and 197 mm (7.75 in) with the cap posted, with a 16 mm (0.62 in) barrel and a 12.5 to 14.1 mm grip section.

How much does the Decoband weigh?

Wahl-Eversharp lists 57 g (2.0 oz). The page doesn't say whether that includes the cap or ink. For comparison, our Pelikan Souverän M800 guide lists 28.2 g.

How does the Decoband fill with ink?

By a twist piston. Wahl-Eversharp calls the filling system a twist piston similar to the Pelikan M800's. It gives no ink capacity, so we can't state one.

What nib does the Decoband have?

A 14 karat gold nib in size #8, in fine or medium. Wahl-Eversharp doesn't say who makes the nib or how flexible it is.

Is the Decoband ebonite or acetate?

The maker's pages disagree. The Tiger Eye and Cracked Ice names say acetate cellulose, but the spec line on every Decoband page reads ebonite, so ask before buying if the material matters.

Which Decoband colorways has Wahl-Eversharp listed?

Five on Wahl-Eversharp's store: Tiger Eye, Cracked Ice, and Maroon, Green and Blue Ripple Ebonite. Its page for the maroon one has a web address that says brown.

What is the history of the Decoband?

Wahl-Eversharp says the Wahl Company's 1928 Oversize Gold Seal Personal Point pen introduced the Grecian Border cap band that gave the pen its nickname. The current brand revived the Decoband in 2015.

Can Wahl-Eversharp service its pens?

Yes, through a service request form. Its page says evaluation can take 5 to 10 business days and a typical turnaround is about 5 weeks, longer if a repair goes to the factory.
