Notes on these facts
  • Made in United States: CW&T's Pen Type-C page lists no country of origin. Its Pen Type-B page says Type-B, along with all of CW&T's other pens, is made at a multi-generation machine shop in Vermont, and the Type-C page says CW&T ships orders from its NYC studio. We read both pages on October 31, 2026. Source. Price: example listing.
  • Colors: names per CW&T Pen Type-C product page, checked October 31, 2026. Finish and edition names are CW&T's own variant names as listed on October 31, 2026; several were sold out that day and stock changes. We drew no tints because CW&T's variant list gives names, not color values. Tints are representative, not measured. Shops stock different colors.

Key takeaways

  • CW&T lists the Pen Type-C at 108 × 15 mm and 3.5 mm thin, thin enough to work as a bookmark.
  • Weights per CW&T: 18 g in grade 5 titanium, 12.8 g for the limited Ultra, 28 g in brass and 30 g in copper.
  • It is designed around the Pilot Hi-Tec-C Coleto ink cartridge, which CW&T says comes in 15 colors and several thicknesses; replacing one is a snap-out, snap-in job.
  • CW&T's plain grade 5 titanium Pen Type-C listed at US$60 on October 31, 2026, with coated, patterned and limited versions at higher prices.
  • CW&T calls it the younger sibling of the Pen Type-A and Pen Type-B, and says all its pens are made at a machine shop in Vermont.

What is the CW&T Pen Type-C?

The Pen Type-C is a flat, machined metal pen thin enough to double as a bookmark. CW&T, a New York design studio, describes it as a flat, durable bookmark pen for everyday carry in a pocket or tucked in a notebook, and as the scrappy, unassuming kid sibling of the Pen Type-A and Pen Type-B.

It is machined to hold a Pilot gel cartridge. Bent spring steel covers the tip when the pen is closed; you flip the pen around to snap the tip into writing position. One customer quote on CW&T’s page compares it to a flat carpenter’s pencil.

Which refill does the Pen Type-C use?

CW&T says it is designed to fit the Pilot Hi-Tec-C Coleto ink cartridge. CW&T adds that the cartridge comes in 15 colors and multiple thicknesses and is built for click pens, so it is meant to sit exposed to air without drying or leaking. To change one, you snap the old cartridge out with a new one, then press the new cartridge’s tip into place.

CW&T’s page doesn’t say which cartridge ships in the pen. Our Pilot Hi-Tec-C Coleto guide lists the gel refill colors and tip sizes Pilot sells for that system, and the Hi-Tec-C guide covers the needle-tip pen it grew out of.

What is it made of, and how much does it weigh?

Grade 5 titanium with a glass bead blast finish is the standard build, at 18 g. CW&T also sells brass (28 g) and copper (30 g) versions. The Ultra, a limited edition made with gnuhr, has hollowed-out pockets and weighs 12.8 g.

CW&T says it machines its products from high-quality materials with longevity in mind. The coated versions use PVD or Cerakote finishes. For Type-B, CW&T says Cerakote wears over time to show the titanium underneath; it makes no such statement on the Type-C page.

Can you take the Type-C clip off?

Yes, a detachable stainless steel clip held on with screws. CW&T says you can anchor it to a book, pocket or shirt, or take the screws and clip off with a flathead screwdriver. The clip is what makes the pen a notebook bookmark pen instead of a loose bar in a pocket.

Is the Type-C comfortable to write with?

CW&T says it is flat and wide enough not to feel tiny in the hand. That claim comes from a customer quote on its own product page, so treat it as the maker’s selection rather than our finding. We haven’t written with one. At 15 mm wide and 3.5 mm thick it is a very different grip from a round pen; compare it with the 9.8 mm round Pen Type-A.

What finishes does it come in?

CW&T lists 22 variants, from plain titanium to printed patterns and limited drops. The plain grade 5 titanium, black PVD, blue PVD, orange Cerakote and white Cerakote versions are the standard finishes; brass and copper are the other metals. The rest are patterned or ombré editions such as Splatter, Heatmap and Composition notebook camo, plus the Ultra. Many were sold out when we looked on October 31, 2026, so stock changes.

What does the Pen Type-C sell for?

The plain titanium Type-C sits in our $$$ band ($20–75): CW&T listed it at US$60 on October 31, 2026. Coated titanium listed at US$65 to US$70, most patterned versions at US$80, and the Ultra at US$89. A cartridge costs far less than the pen. Frequently asked questions

How big is the CW&T Pen Type-C?

Is the Pen Type-C made in the USA?
