What is Wearingeul?
Wearingeul is a South Korean stationery brand that makes fountain pen inks based on works of literature. US retailer The Paper Mouse says a calligrapher started it in 2016, and that its first product was a Book Perfume that turned a story into a scent.
The same idea, asking what color a story would be, led to inks, swatch cards and paper. The Paper Mouse describes Wearingeul today as a team of ten people.
Wearingeul’s own site returned an access-restricted page when we tried to read it on October 29, 2026. The facts here come from the US and UK shops listed in Sources, and we name the shop each time.
What are Wearingeul’s literature collections?
The inks are grouped by author or theme under a project Wearingeul calls The Color of Literature. Endless Pens says the ink line began in 2018 with inks based on the Korean poets Yun Dong-ju and Yi Sang, and that the Color of Literature project followed in 2019.

Do Wearingeul inks shimmer or sheen?
Some do and some don’t, so check each ink’s listing. Goldspot’s text, which reads like the maker’s own, says the inks have effects such as sheen or color division (color separation as the ink spreads).
The Nightingale and the Rose: a beige-toned light brown base with red glitter, per Jenni Bick; Goulet Pens calls it brown with red shimmer.
Soyoungwije: a deep violet with silver shimmer and brown sheen, per Vanness.
World Literature Collection I: no shimmer and not waterproof, per The Journal Shop.
Dromgoole’s adds “Glistening” to the names of shimmer bottles, such as The Secret Garden and Alice. Our guide to ink properties explains sheen, shimmer and shading.
Are shimmer inks safe in a fountain pen?
Yes, with extra care. Goulet Pens warns that the particles in The Nightingale and the Rose may restrict flow in some pens, and advises shaking the bottle before filling and rolling the pen often.
Clean the pen promptly, and pick one that’s easy to flush. Jenni Bick also says careful cleaning is needed to prevent clogs.
How does Wearingeul compare with other shimmer and Japanese inks?
Wearingeul sits between a 20 ml Sailor bottle and a 50 ml Herbin shimmer bottle.
Herbin and Sailor figures come from their own guides.
How much does Wearingeul ink cost?
It’s in our $$$ band, $20–75 a bottle, at every US shop we checked. On October 29, 2026, Goulet Pens and Goldspot listed 30 ml bottles at US$28.00, Vanness and Jenni Bick at US$27.00, and Dromgoole’s at US$25.00.
