Most correction tapes click as you pull them because a ratchet stops the reel spinning backward. PLUS redesigned that ratchet around a silent gear (静音ギア) at the back of the case, and Impress Watch reports PLUS’s figure of about 90% less running noise.
How big is it, and how much tape does it hold?
PLUS lists a 76 × 16 × 36 mm body holding 12 m of 5 mm tape.
That 12 m is twice the 6 m in PLUS’s Whiper MR and Whiper Petit, as cited in our correction tape guide, in a body small enough for a pencil case.
Tape length per cartridge: the Quiet holds twice as much as the two smaller Whipers.
What else is different about it?
It keeps PLUS’s Whiper features: a mini roller head, thin Usu-sara (薄さら) tape, reverse mode and a cap built into the body. The roller head turns on the paper, so the tape runs straight and smoothly, PLUS says.
Impress Watch reports the Usu-sara tape’s white layer is 11% thinner than PLUS’s earlier tape, so it leaves less of a step and pens don’t scrape it when you write over it. Reverse mode means you flip the tape to see a single character as you cover it.
What award did it win?
A Good Design Award 2026, award number 26G030118. The judges wrote that the click everyone ignores can feel loud in a library or a test, and praised PLUS for tackling the mechanism itself for students.
The Whiper Quiet holds more tape and is refillable; the Tombow MONO Original is the easy US buy. Tombow lists the MONO Original at 4.2 mm × 10 m, single use.
Choose the Quiet if noise or refills matter and you don’t mind importing it; choose the MONO for a US store shelf.
Who is it for?
