Why is the blade curved?
PLUS says the curved blade, which it calls a Bernoulli curve, keeps the two edges meeting at about 30° from the root to the tip. On straight scissors the angle widens toward the tip, so material slides forward instead of being cut.
PLUS also lists an anti-rattle ring at the pivot to keep the blades steady, and a two-layer grip with a soft inner layer. A small rest supports the little finger. These are maker claims; we haven’t measured cutting force.
The Fit Cut Curve is about 3 cm shorter than an 8 in office scissors, with a shorter blade.
Fluorine coat or titanium: which Fit Cut Curve should you get?
Get the fluorine coat (SC-175SF) if you cut tape, stickers or anything with glue; get titanium if you mostly cut paper and want the edge to last. PLUS says the fluorine coating stops tape and glue from sticking and resists dirt and rust, so it also suits kitchen-adjacent jobs.

PLUS also sells a Premium Titanium (SC-175STN), a larger size, a junior model and the folding Twiggy travel scissors. Don’t confuse the SC-175SF with the all-purpose Fit Cut Curve Bannō Titanium (SC-190PMT), a different 187 mm model with a short serrated blade for metal and wire that won a 2026 Japan Stationery Award.
Long blades are faster on long straight cuts in paper. The Fit Cut Curve’s shorter, curved blade suits cutting tape, small shapes and packaging at a desk. Amazon US lists the SC-175SF’s weight at 0.06–0.07 kg.
Is it good for journaling and washi tape?
Yes, that’s the coated version’s main appeal. Uncoated blades pick up adhesive from mt washi tape and double-sided tape, which then drags on the next cut. PLUS says the fluorine coating sheds that residue.
For trimming stickers and photos, the rounded tip is safer in a bag but less precise in tight corners than pointed craft snips. PLUS calls the tip a safe rounded tip.
Where is the PLUS Fit Cut Curve made?
PLUS doesn’t state where the SC-175SF is made. Its Japanese product page and the Amazon US listings give no country of manufacture. PLUS’s own online shop lists China for a sibling model, the Premium Titanium SC-175STN, so check the package.
PLUS is a Japanese brand based in Tokyo. The series won a Good Design Award in 2012 and Red Dot and iF design awards in 2013, PLUS says.
Frequently asked questions
Why are the PLUS Fit Cut Curve blades curved?
PLUS says the curve keeps the blades meeting at about 30° along their whole length. Straight blades open wider near the tip, so a curved blade grips the material instead of pushing it away.
How long are PLUS Fit Cut Curve scissors?
The standard-size models, including the SC-175SF, are 174 mm (6.9 in) long with a 65 mm (2.6 in) blade, per PLUS Japan. That is about 3 cm shorter than an 8 in office scissors.
Do PLUS Fit Cut Curve scissors work for left-handed people?
The SC-175SF has symmetric loops that PLUS calls an easy grip, and Amazon lists it as ambidextrous. The blades still cross the usual way, so some left-handers may see the cut line less clearly.
Is the fluorine-coated Fit Cut Curve good for washi tape and stickers?
That's what the coating is for: PLUS says tape and glue don't stick to it and it resists dirt and rust. We haven't yet tested how long the coating lasts.
What is the difference between Fit Cut Curve fluorine and titanium?
PLUS sells the fluorine coat for sticky jobs like tape and glue, and titanium-coated blades (SC-175ST) for lasting sharpness. Both share the same 174 mm curved-blade shape.
Can you cut cardboard with PLUS Fit Cut Curve scissors?
PLUS lists cardboard, milk cartons, plastic bags, PET bottles, packaging and laminated photos among the materials it cuts. Thick corrugated board is heavy work for a 65 mm blade.
Are PLUS Fit Cut Curve scissors made in Japan?
PLUS doesn't say for the SC-175SF. PLUS is a Tokyo company, and its own shop lists China as the origin of the Premium Titanium model, so check the package.
