What is the Midori Bookmarker Embroidery?
It’s a clip-on ribbon bookmark with a small embroidered animal charm at the end, made to add a bookmark and a bit of character to any notebook. Midori, the Japanese stationery brand of Designphil, says you just pick a design and clip it inside your planner’s cover.
The charms are animals from other Midori products: a long-tailed tit perched on an ink bottle, a hedgehog holding a fountain pen and a squirrel reading a book, among others.

How do you fit it to A6, B6 or A5?
Wind the ribbon around the clip to shorten it: not at all for A5, once for B6 and slim books, twice for A6. That’s Midori’s own guide; the clip has a space for the ribbon to wrap.
Page heights and the ribbon at 1 mm = 1 px.
At full length on an A5 book, the 250 mm ribbon is 40 mm longer than the 210 mm page, so the charm hangs out of the bottom, where you can see it.
Which design should you choose?
Pick the animal you like: all six share the same size, ribbon and price. Midori’s Japanese store lists the long-tailed tit (シマエナガ), hedgehog, polar bear, cat, squirrel and bird.

How does it compare with Midori’s other page markers?
It’s the soft, decorative option; Midori’s metal clips are flatter and more precise.
For a book without a ribbon, such as many MD Notebooks, the embroidery bookmark adds one in seconds.
Is it worth it?
At ¥704 (about US$4.50) in Japan, yes, if you want a removable ribbon bookmark with a charm. Several US shops we checked listed some designs as sold out, which suggests steady demand.
The clip is paper, not metal, so it’s gentle on covers but may lose grip over time; Midori says to bend it back if it loosens. See all our picks in the best notebook charms.
What are the downsides?
The clip is paper board, so it’s thicker than a metal clip and may soften with use; and the charm, at up to 33 mm wide, adds a bump at the book’s edge. Midori’s own advice for a loose clip is to bend it back into shape.
The ribbon is also fixed at 250 mm: on books taller than A5, such as B5, the charm won’t hang out of the bottom. Midori rates it for A6 to A5 only.
Is it a good gift?
Yes: it’s inexpensive, fits most journals and planners, and the six animals make it easy to match a person. It comes on a printed card (182 × 64 mm package), so it slips into a card envelope.
Where is it made?
Midori doesn’t state a country of origin for this bookmark, so we list it as Not stated. Midori is a brand of Designphil Inc. in Tokyo.
Frequently asked questions
How do you attach the Midori embroidery bookmark?
Slide its paper clip over the inside cover or the top edge of a page block, so the ribbon runs down the book. Midori says it lifts off and can be reused in another notebook.
Does the Midori bookmark fit an A6 planner?
Yes. Midori rates it for A6 to A5: wind the 250 mm ribbon twice around the clip for A6, once for B6 or slim books, and not at all for A5.
What designs does the Midori embroidery bookmark come in?
Six on Midori's Japanese store: long-tailed tit (on an ink bottle), hedgehog (holding a fountain pen), polar bear, cat, squirrel (reading a book) and bird.
Is the embroidery bookmark's clip metal?
No. Midori lists the clip as fibre paper, a stiff paper board, which is gentle on pages. If it loosens, Midori suggests bending it back into shape.
How much is the Midori embroidery bookmark?
¥704 (about US$4.50) each with tax in Japan. US shops charge more once imported, in our $$ band ($5–20).

Midori doesn't say on its product pages, so we list it as Not stated.
