What is the Kanmido Coco-Fusen Card?

It’s a thin, card-size case of see-through film sticky notes, made to live in the card slot of a planner, pass case or phone cover. Coco-Fusen (ココフセン) is Kanmido’s line of film notes; ふせん (fusen) is the Japanese word for sticky notes and page markers.

Kanmido, a sticky-note maker based in Meguro, Tokyo, first sold the card in April 2012 and says it passed 2 million sold by March 2024. In the US it’s sold by JetPens and by Hobonichi alongside its Techo planners.

How big is it?

It’s practically a credit card: 84 × 53.5 mm against a standard card’s 85.6 × 54 mm. At about 1.5 mm thin, it slides into the same slots.

To-scale Coco-Fusen Card, 84 by 53.5 mm, drawn over the dashed outline of an 85.6 by 54 mm credit card, beside the M note at 32 by 11 mm and the S note at 32 by 5.5 mm
The case almost exactly matches a credit card; M and S notes beside it at the same scale.

An M note is about the height of one line of text plus margin, so it marks a line rather than a page. The S note is half as tall, for single words or tight rows in a planner.

How do the notes come out?

One at a time, like tissues: Kanmido calls it a pop-up case. You pull a note from the slot on the front and the next one follows.

That’s the practical difference from a loose pad of flags: one hand can pull a note while the other holds the book open.

Why film instead of paper notes?

Film is see-through and tougher than paper. You can stick a note over a line of text and still read it, and it doesn’t tear or curl when the book closes on it.

Kanmido treats the film so you can write on it, but warns that water-based and gel pens may dry slowly or not take. The same clear-end idea drives Post-it Flags 680, which are larger at 1 × 1.7 in; for a note big enough for a sentence, a paper pad such as Post-it Notes 654 works better.

How do you refill it?

Slip new bundles of 21 into the case. Kanmido’s refill packs hold 210 M notes (two bundles per color) or 420 S notes (four bundles per color), and both sizes share one case, so you can mix them.

Only Card refills fit. JetPens points out that the Coco-Fusen Basic notes, at 1.2 × 4.2 cm, are too large for the card and belong in the Basic holders.

What changed in 2024?

Kanmido relaunched the card on March 22, 2024 with new colors, a smooth matte case and plainer designs. It stopped making the earlier COLOR M (CF-5001) at the end of March 2024 and named the COLOR Standard M (CFC-1003) as its successor.

The case and note sizes stayed the same, so older and newer refills are interchangeable in size.

Which should you choose, M or S?

Choose M for marking passages and lines, and S for color-coding a planner.

You want to Pick
Mark passages in books and reports Card M
Color-code days, tasks or words in a planner Card S
Write a letter or two on the flag Card M
Carry the most notes per case Card S

Kanmido warns that the adhesive can lift the surface of some papers, so it advises against precious, old or borrowed books. For a planner kit, a Hobonichi Pencil Board makes a firm writing surface to go with it.

Where is the Coco-Fusen Card made?

We didn’t find a country stated for the Card. Kanmido’s product page doesn’t say, and retailers list only the Coco-Fusen Mini and Clip as made in Japan, so check the package.
