What is the Hobonichi Techo Mini Keychain?
It’s a miniature, working copy of the Hobonichi Techo that hangs from a ball chain, so you can wear your planner as a charm. Hobonichi made it for the 2027 lineup and says it reproduces the cover’s butterfly-stopper pen holders and the pocket on the back.
Take out the pencil-shaped stopper, open the cover, and there’s a small notebook printed with the same grid as the Hobonichi Techo Original. Hobonichi calls the whole thing “a small LIFE book” to carry anywhere.

How small is it next to a real Techo?
About a third of the Original’s height: 53 mm against 148 mm. Hobonichi describes it as roughly one tenth the size of the Original, which matches the area better than the height; it sits in a palm.
The grid book inside is small enough that a fine pen, 0.38 mm or less, will suit it best. That’s our suggestion; we haven’t written in one yet.
Which design should you choose?
Red is the closest to the classic Techo look; Blue × Pink is the louder pair; Bright Plaid is sold out. All three hold the same notebook.
The pencil stopper differs too: yellow on the Red, red on the Blue × Pink, per Hobonichi’s photos. If you plan to hang it on a Colors cover, pick a contrast so it doesn’t disappear.
How do you attach it?
The ball chain unhooks, so you can thread it through a cover’s pen loop, a zipper pull or a bag strap and close it again. Hobonichi suggests your techo or your bag.
It adds about 12 g, a little more than a sheet of stickers, so it won’t drag a cover down.
Is it worth it?
As a charm, yes, if you love the Techo: it’s a faithful miniature at a modest price. As a notebook, 40 tiny pages are for a word or a doodle, not real notes.
US shops and Amazon US list it in our $$ band ($5–20). Compare it with the other picks in our best notebook charms.
How does it compare with other planner charms?
It’s the only charm here you can actually write in; the others are decorations or tools.
Hobonichi also gave a gold-coloured acorn charm as a bonus with 2027 books bought at its own stores, but that charm isn’t sold separately.
What are the downsides?
It’s small enough to lose, the pages are tiny, and one of three designs is sold out. Hobonichi warns that the cover materials can lose or transfer colour when rubbed or wet, so keep it away from a white bag.
The pencil is decorative only, and its pointed tip is a reason Hobonichi sets the age at 15 and up.
Where is the mini keychain made?
In China, per the country of origin on Hobonichi’s Japanese store page. Hobonichi itself is a Tokyo company; for the full range of books and covers see our Hobonichi Techo lineup.
Frequently asked questions
Can you write in the Hobonichi mini keychain?
Yes. The tiny book inside has 40 pages of the Techo's grid, per Hobonichi. The pencil-shaped piece only fastens the cover and can't write, so carry a slim pen.
How big is the Hobonichi Techo mini?
53 mm tall, 48 mm wide and 9 mm thick (2.1 × 1.9 × 0.4 in), about 12 g, on a 94 mm ball chain. Hobonichi calls it roughly a tenth the size of the Original.
What colors does the Hobonichi Techo mini keychain come in?
Three: Red, Blue × Pink and Bright Plaid. All share the same notebook inside; Hobonichi lists Bright Plaid as sold out with no restock date.
Can you attach it to a planner cover?
Yes. Hobonichi suggests hanging it on your techo or a bag. The ball chain is detachable, so you can loop it through a pen holder or zipper pull.
Is the Hobonichi mini keychain made in Japan?
No. Hobonichi lists China as the country of origin.
Is the mini keychain safe for children?
Hobonichi rates it for ages 15 and up and warns of small parts and the pointed pencil stopper, so keep it away from young children.
