What is the Hobonichi Colors cover?
It’s the plain, solid-color cover series Hobonichi sells every year for its planners, made of polyester with a butterfly-stopper pen holder. Hobonichi calls Colors its signature series and a regular part of its cover lineup, improved over the years from customer feedback.
The cover is the system: you slide the yearly Hobonichi Techo Original book into it, and swap in next year’s book when the year ends. The book itself has no detachable cover.

How does the butterfly stopper work?
Two fabric loops, one on each cover edge, meet when the cover closes; push a pen through both and the cover can’t fall open. Hobonichi describes it as a hinge-shaped pen holder that keeps the planner from opening in your bag.
Hobonichi designs the loops around the 12.2 mm (0.48 in) Jetstream it includes as a store bonus and says they take pens up to 13.5 mm (0.53 in) across. Thicker fountain pens won’t fit, and Hobonichi warns that some shapes and materials are hard to pull through.
Which Hobonichi books fit the A6 Colors cover?
The A6 Colors cover takes the Original, the English Planner, the two-book Original Avec and the A6 day-free. All are A6 books, 148 × 105 mm; Hobonichi lists the Original at 15 mm thick and each Avec half at 8 mm.

What colors are there for 2027?
Hobonichi added three A6 Colors for 2027: Blue Parasol, Fresh Citron and Bordeaux Teracotta. Each pairs an outside color with a contrasting lining; Blue Parasol, for example, is turquoise with a retro pink inside.
Returning shades include Black × Clear Blue, which Hobonichi calls a popular, versatile black, and Navy. The A5 Cousin size got three new colors of its own.
Hobonichi says the colors are dyed or printed onto white fabric, so the shade can vary slightly between covers and even between a pocket and the rest of the cover.

Hobonichi sells a clear Cover on Cover made for Colors covers, plus pencil boards sized for the Original. The Cover on Cover protects the polyester from wear and lets you slip a photo or postcard between the layers; Hobonichi says it doesn’t suit leather or thick fabric covers.

What are the downsides?
The pen holder limits you to slim pens, and the cover adds bulk the book doesn’t have on its own. Hobonichi also notes that because the cover opens flat to 180 degrees, the stitching can look puckered and the lining loose.
