Hobonichi's 2027 lineup lists these seven Colors covers for the A6 Original size, named here as its English store names them (its Japanese store's name in each tile's note; the English page spells Bordeaux Terracotta as "Teracotta"). Tints are hand-picked from Hobonichi's product photos, which are styled scenes, not measured. Shops stock different colors; check the listing. ## Key takeaways - Hobonichi lists the A6 Colors cover at 165 × 244 × 3 mm (6.5 × 9.6 × 0.1 in) opened flat, excluding the pen holders, and about 100 g. - The butterfly-stopper pen holder is designed around a 12.2 mm Jetstream and takes pens up to 13.5 mm (0.53 in) across. - It fits the A6 Original, the English Planner, the Original Avec and the A6 day-free books. - In Japan the cover alone lists at ¥2,750 (about US$17); with a 2027 book it's ¥5,170 (about US$33) to ¥6,160 (about US$39). - Three new A6 Colors arrived for 2027: Blue Parasol, Fresh Citron and Bordeaux Teracotta, alongside returning shades such as Black × Clear Blue. ## What is the Hobonichi Colors cover? **It's the plain, solid-color cover series Hobonichi sells every year for its planners, made of polyester with a butterfly-stopper pen holder.** Hobonichi calls Colors its signature series and a regular part of its cover lineup, improved over the years from customer feedback. The cover is the system: you slide the yearly [Hobonichi Techo Original](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/hobonichi-techo-original/) book into it, and swap in next year's book when the year ends. The book itself has no detachable cover. ## Hobonichi Colors cover specs | Spec | Colors, A6 Original size | |---|---| | Size, opened flat | 165 × 244 × 3 mm (6.5 × 9.6 × 0.1 in), excluding pen holders | | Weight | About 100 g (3.5 oz) | | Material | Polyester outside and inside | | Closure | Butterfly-stopper pen holders | | Pen fit | Up to 13.5 mm (0.53 in) across | | Bookmarks | 2, with triangle and square charms | | Fits | Original, Planner (English), Original Avec, day-free (A6) | | List price (Japan) | ¥2,750 (about US$17) cover only; ¥5,170 (about US$33) to ¥6,160 (about US$39) with a book | The figures come from Hobonichi's Japanese and English pages for Black × Clear Blue, which we read in full on October 21, 2026. Hobonichi notes that sizes vary slightly from cover to cover. ![Hobonichi Colors A6 cover opened flat holding an open A6 Original book, drawn to scale](https://stationerytimes.com/images/hobonichi-techo-colors-cover-size.svg) *Opened flat, the cover leaves a margin of about 8 mm above and below the A6 book.* ## How does the butterfly stopper work? **Two fabric loops, one on each cover edge, meet when the cover closes; push a pen through both and the cover can't fall open.** Hobonichi describes it as a hinge-shaped pen holder that keeps the planner from opening in your bag. Hobonichi designs the loops around the 12.2 mm (0.48 in) Jetstream it includes as a store bonus and says they take pens up to 13.5 mm (0.53 in) across. Thicker fountain pens won't fit, and Hobonichi warns that some shapes and materials are hard to pull through. ## Which Hobonichi books fit the A6 Colors cover? **The A6 Colors cover takes the Original, the English Planner, the two-book Original Avec and the A6 day-free.** All are A6 books, 148 × 105 mm; Hobonichi lists the Original at 15 mm thick and each Avec half at 8 mm. | Book | Fits the A6 Colors cover? | |---|---| | Original (Japanese) or Planner (English), A6 | Yes | | Original Avec, A6, two books | Yes | | day-free, A6 | Yes | | Cousin, A5 | No: use the A5 Colors cover (228 × 337 mm open) | | Weeks | No: it has its own covers | Our [Hobonichi lineup guide](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/hobonichi-techo-lineup-explained/) explains each book, and the [Hobonichi Cousin](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/hobonichi-cousin/) guide covers the A5 size. ## What colors are there for 2027? **Hobonichi added three A6 Colors for 2027: Blue Parasol, Fresh Citron and Bordeaux Teracotta.** Each pairs an outside color with a contrasting lining; Blue Parasol, for example, is turquoise with a retro pink inside. Returning shades include Black × Clear Blue, which Hobonichi calls a popular, versatile black, and Navy. The A5 Cousin size got three new colors of its own. Hobonichi says the colors are dyed or printed onto white fabric, so the shade can vary slightly between covers and even between a pocket and the rest of the cover. ## How much does the Colors cover cost? **The cover alone falls in our $$$ band ($20–75 for a cover).** Hobonichi's English store listed Black × Clear Blue at US$26 for the cover only on October 21, 2026. In Japan it lists at ¥2,750 (about US$17) alone, or ¥5,170 (about US$33) to ¥6,160 (about US$39) as a set with a 2027 book, depending on the edition. ## What accessories go with it? **Hobonichi sells a clear Cover on Cover made for Colors covers, plus pencil boards sized for the Original.** The Cover on Cover protects the polyester from wear and lets you slip a photo or postcard between the layers; Hobonichi says it doesn't suit leather or thick fabric covers. A [Hobonichi pencil board](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/hobonichi-pencil-board/) doubles as a bookmark and a firm writing surface. If you prefer a leather cover with swappable paper instead of a dated book, the [TRAVELER'S notebook Passport](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/travelers-notebook-passport/) is a smaller refillable option. ## What are the downsides? **The pen holder limits you to slim pens, and the cover adds bulk the book doesn't have on its own.** Hobonichi also notes that because the cover opens flat to 180 degrees, the stitching can look puckered and the lining loose. ## Where is the Hobonichi Colors cover made? **Hobonichi doesn't publish a country of manufacture for the Colors cover.** Its product pages list size, weight and materials only, and we found no retailer that states one. Hobonichi is based in Tokyo. To hang a tiny replica of the Techo from a cover, see the [Hobonichi Techo Mini Keychain](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/hobonichi-techo-mini-keychain/). ## Frequently asked questions ### What size is the Hobonichi Colors cover? For the A6 Original, Hobonichi gives 165 mm tall and 244 mm wide when opened flat, 3 mm thick, not counting the pen holders. The A5 Cousin version is 228 × 337 × 3 mm. ### Does the Hobonichi Colors cover come with a planner? You can buy it either way. Hobonichi sells the cover alone and as a set with a Techo book, which is why its store shows two prices. ### What pens fit the Hobonichi butterfly stopper? Hobonichi says the holder is sized for the 12.2 mm Jetstream it gives away as a store bonus and fits pens up to 13.5 mm across. Pens with unusual shapes or grippy materials can be hard to pull through. ### Will a Hobonichi Weeks or Cousin fit the A6 Colors cover? No. The A6 cover fits the Original, the English Planner, the Original Avec and the A6 day-free. The Cousin and day-free A5 need the A5 Cousin cover, and the Weeks has its own covers. ### Is the Hobonichi Colors cover waterproof? Hobonichi doesn't call it waterproof. It describes a glossy, firm polyester that is thin but sturdy; for protection it sells a clear Cover on Cover made for Colors covers. ### How much is the Hobonichi Colors cover in the US? It falls in our $$$ band ($20–75). Hobonichi's English store shows a dollar price for the cover alone that sits in that band. ### Does the Hobonichi Colors cover lie flat? Yes, it opens flat to 180 degrees. Hobonichi notes that because of this, the stitching can look puckered and the lining loose. ## Sources - [カラーズ ブラック×クリアブルー ［オリジナルサイズ（A6）］ (Hobonichi Japan, 2027: 縦165mm×横244mm×厚さ3mm, 約100g, ポリエステル; cover ¥2,750, with book ¥5,170–¥6,160; compatible books; read in full)](https://www.1101.com/store/techo/ja/2027/pc/detail_cover/oc22_colorsblack/) - [Colors: Black x Clear Blue A6 Original Size (Hobonichi English store, 2027: specifications, pen holder fits pens up to 13.5 mm, 12.2 mm Jetstream, US$26 cover price on October 21, 2026; read in full)](https://www.1101.com/store/techo/en/2027/pc/detail_cover/oc22_colorsblack/) - [Which color will you spend your new days with?
