What is the KOKUYO Campus Smart Ring binder?
It’s a slim plastic binder for B5 loose leaf that folds back like a ring notebook. KOKUYO, the Osaka maker of Campus notebooks, calls it a “binder notebook”: you get the swappable pages of a binder in something as thin and light as a notebook.
The Smart Ring 60 is the thicker of the two B5 versions, with rings that hold 60 sheets. KOKUYO says that’s enough to add index dividers and carry several school subjects in one binder.

KOKUYO says the included paper is its “Smooth” Campus loose leaf, which resists bleed and show-through and is acid free. Amazon US lists the binder at 0.11 kg (3.9 oz).
How does the fold-back cover work?
KOKUYO’s Smart Ring binding lets the cover swing all the way round behind the pages, like a ring notebook’s. Most binders have a stiff spine that only opens flat.
Folded back, you write on one page at a time, as in a spiral notebook, and the binder takes half the desk space. The Pen Addict’s 2020 review found it slim and light, with a cover that protects the pages.
Which Smart Ring should you choose?
The 60 for several subjects or a semester’s notes; the 25 for a slimmer daily binder.

KOKUYO also makes a business version, the Smart Ring Biz. If you want rings that don’t press into your hand at all, the KOKUYO Soft Ring Notebook uses squashy resin rings, but its pages don’t come out. For loose papers you don’t want to punch, Sakura’s Komagoma File A4 stands on a shelf with 13 pockets.

What are the downsides?
B5 paper and 26-hole punching are harder to find in the US. A buyer review on minimaru says B5 refills cost more and are harder to find than ordinary paper, and also calls the rings fiddly to open.
The Pen Addict thought the B5 binder a bit pricey for what it is. On October 22, 2026, KOKUYO’s US store listed it at US$14.70, in our $5–20 band, against ¥1,000 (about US$6.30) in Japan.
Where is the KOKUYO Smart Ring binder made?
KOKUYO doesn’t say. Its Japanese and US product pages give materials and sizes but no country of manufacture, and neither do the Amazon US listings we read. KOKUYO itself is a Japanese company based in Osaka.
