What is the Sakura Komagoma File A4?
It is a standing accordion file from Sakura Color Products, the maker of Cray-Pas and Pigma, with 13 low, wide pockets you can see into at a glance. It opens like a fan, stands up on its own, closes with a hook-and-loop flap and has a cut-out handle.
Sakura made it with professional organizer Taeko Mizutani for its okatazuke (tidying) series for children. The first, smaller Komagoma File for origami and stickers came out in late April 2024 and, Sakura says, hit its yearly sales target in a month and a half after it spread on social media.

Why did it win the Bungu-ya-san Taishō design award?
The shop-staff judges liked that it turns sideways A4 into a file that stands, opens fully and fits on a shelf. Fusosha announced the design award (デザイン賞) on February 14, 2026, one of the four headline awards; see our Bungu-ya-san Taishō 2026 winners.
Head judge Yoshinori Takagi wrote that laying A4 on its side helps the file stand, gives a wider opening and suits shelf heights, and that its calmer colors work for adults as well as children. Other judges called it a way for parents and children to share school notices.
What fits in it?
School notices and homework, plus anything flat: stickers, letter paper, trading cards, receipts, postcards and recipes, Hands says. Sakura designed the pockets low so the contents show, and includes index stickers to label them.
Because the A4 file holds paper landscape, a sheet sits with its long side down. Sakura doesn’t publish a sheet capacity per pocket, so we’ll measure one.
How does it compare with a regular accordion file?

Not from Sakura of America: on October 23, 2026, we found only third-party “Komagoma File” listings on Amazon.com, none clearly the A4 model. Japanese online stores and proxy services are the surer route. At Japan’s price it sits in our $$ band ($5–20), before import costs.
