What is the Penco Plastic Clampy Clip?
It’s a large plastic spring clip with a wide jaw, sold by Japan’s HIGHTIDE under its Penco brand. HIGHTIDE’s Japanese name for it is プラクリップ (Pla Clip); US shops such as JetPens call it the Plastic Clampy Clip.
HIGHTIDE says it opens wide with a light squeeze and holds firmly without biting too hard. The lever has a hole at the top, so the clip can also hang from a hook or a pushpin. It suggests the clip for opened snack and coffee bags, receipts and documents, or as a book clip that keeps a planner or textbook open.

HIGHTIDE says plastic is light, tough and shrugs off water and dirt, so it suggests the plastic clip for camping. The steel price range runs from silver to gold and the colored finishes.
What colors and versions are there?
Twenty regular colors, a glow-in-the-dark version and five glitter colors. The regular lineup runs from Black, Grey, Ivory and Brown to Neon Yellow, and includes a plain Clear plus five tinted clears: Clear Black, Clear Red, Clear Yellow, Clear Blue and Clear Green.
The Glow clip charges from at least 30 minutes of sunlight or fluorescent light, HIGHTIDE says, and suits a dark garage or a campsite. The Glitter clips are clear with silver glitter, in pink, orange, light blue, light green and purple. HIGHTIDE also sells a larger Brief Pla Clip for ¥660 (about US$4.20).
Is it popular in the US?
Yes: Plastic Clampy Clips are among the most-rated Penco items on Amazon US. On October 24, 2026, one listing averaged 4.2 stars from 174 ratings and another (model DP163-KH) 4.3 stars from 66.
JetPens sells each color separately, and in the US it sells in our $ band (under $5) per clip. Some Amazon listings are third-party imports at much higher prices, so compare per-clip prices before buying.
HIGHTIDE’s own pitch is that you can never have too many. With 20 colors, several clips can also color-code folders, bags or receipts. For other ways to hold paper, see the Penco Clipboard O/S, the Midori clip ruler and the King Jim TWIP book clip.
Where is the Penco Plastic Clampy Clip made?
In China, per HIGHTIDE’s Japanese page. The steel Clampy Clips are made in China too. Penco is HIGHTIDE’s own brand, started in 1999 by the Fukuoka company.
