What is the MUJI acrylic pen stand?
It’s a clear, open-top acrylic box that holds pens upright on a desk. MUJI sells it in three sizes, and the standard one is 9 cm tall, small enough to sit beside a keyboard.
MUJI, the Japanese brand of Ryohin Keikaku, keeps the design plain: no logo, no dividers in the listings, just a clear box that shows what’s inside.

Small and large sizes, inside sizes and prices come from MUJI Japan’s online store; the standard from MUJI USA, and the large’s weight from MUJI Canada. MUJI Japan currently sells only the small and large, and its small is within 2 mm of MUJI USA’s standard in every direction, so the two are close to interchangeable.
Which size should you choose?
Choose the small or standard for a few everyday pens, and the large for a full kit with scissors.
- Small (5.7 × 4.5 cm) or standard (5.5 × 4.5 cm): a handful of pens and pencils beside a laptop. They are almost the same box; which one you find depends on the country.
- Large (7.3 × 5.7 cm): room for markers, a ruler and a pair of scissors as well.
Reviewers on MUJI Japan’s store also use the large for makeup brushes, mascara and eyeliners. Check the inside size against your pens before ordering.
What fits in it?
Anything up to about twice its 9 cm height stays upright, with the top half showing. The inside is 85 mm deep on the small and large, per MUJI Japan. A new Ticonderoga No. 2 is 190 mm long, so about 100 mm sticks out; a capped LAMY Safari, at 139.5 mm, shows about 50 mm.
Very short items such as erasers or a pen refill sink to the bottom, where they’re easy to see through the clear sides but harder to pick out.
How does it compare with other pen holders?
It’s the clear, minimal option; Amazon’s best-selling pen holders are adhesive holders and multi-slot organizers. ASINsight’s July 2026 data puts a 10-pack of adhesive silicone pen holders at the top of a related Amazon category, and its April 2026 report lists an Amazon Basics pen holder and desk organizer among the top sellers.
| MUJI acrylic pen stand | Mesh desk cup | Adhesive pen loop | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Material | Clear acrylic | Metal mesh | Fabric or silicone |
| Contents visible | Yes, through the sides | Partly | One pen |
| Footprint | 5.5 × 4.5 cm (standard) | Varies | None |
| Portable | No | No | Goes with the notebook |
If you carry your pen with your notebook, a Leuchtturm1917 Pen Loop does the job without desk space; for a bag, see the LIHIT LAB Teffa pen case.
Is the MUJI acrylic pen stand worth it?
For a plain, clear holder, yes: all three sizes sit in our lowest price band, under $5. In Japan the small costs ¥190 (about US$1.20). On MUJI USA, the standard stand averages 4.19 stars from 16 reviews, and on MUJI Japan the large averages 4.8 from 24.
What you don’t get is weight or grip. At 80 to 90 g it’s light, and the listings don’t mention a non-slip base, so a stand full of scissors may slide or tip. MUJI also warns against cleaning it with alcohol or solvents, which can deform, discolor or crack acrylic.
Where is the MUJI acrylic pen stand made?
MUJI lists China as the country of origin for all three sizes. MUJI Japan’s store gives 中国 (China) for the small and large, MUJI USA gives China for the standard and small, and MUJI Canada for the large.
MUJI itself is a Japanese brand, run by Ryohin Keikaku. The listings we read don’t give a release date.

How many pens fit in a MUJI acrylic pen stand?

It's light: 80 g for the standard and 90 g for the large. We haven't tested tipping yet, but a full stand with long scissors may be top-heavy.
