How dark is Sherwood Green?
Very dark: Goulet calls it one of Diamine’s darkest greens. Goulet’s 2023 review says it pools to a very dark deep green, with shading that gives color variation but a consistent line.
Mountain of Ink rated the shading medium and noted the ink looks darker, with more sheen, in large swabs on Tomoe River paper.
Does Sherwood Green sheen?
A little, on the right pen and paper. Goulet says you’ll get a nice touch of red sheen with the right combination; Mountain of Ink rated it low.
Coated, ink-resistant papers such as Tomoe River and Rhodia let ink sit on top, which is where sheen shows. On copy paper it soaks in, and the sheen disappears.
How fast does it dry, and is it waterproof?
It dries in about 10 to 20 seconds and isn’t water resistant. Goulet measured 15–20 seconds and Mountain of Ink 10; dry time always depends on the nib and paper.
Goulet says it’s not water resistant at all, but notes that diluting it gives a wide range of green shades. For a waterproof alternative, see De Atramentis Document Black or Noodler’s Black.
Which bottle should you buy?
The 30 ml to try it, the 80 ml if you use a lot of green. Goulet sells the 30 ml in a plastic bottle with an 11.9 mm opening, about half the 23.6 mm of a Noodler’s bottle, so a large nib may not reach in; Diamine’s 80 ml comes in its glass bottle.
Yes. Diamine sells Sherwood Green in standard international (“European Standard”) cartridges, in packs of 18 or 6, per its UK store.
Those fit most European pens that take standard international cartridges, such as the Kaweco Sport, but not LAMY or Pilot pens, which use their own shapes. Diamine’s store listed the 18-pack at £5.86 (about US$7.70) before VAT on October 22, 2026.
Is it safe for vintage pens?
Diamine says so. Its listing describes the ink as water-based, non-toxic, acid-free and vegan-friendly, and suitable for any brand of fountain pen, especially vintage models.
Goulet rates flow as medium, leaning wet. Mountain of Ink saw a little feathering and bleed on cheap copy paper, so use fountain-pen-friendly paper for fine nibs.
Where is Diamine Sherwood Green made?
In England, near Liverpool. Diamine’s history page says it makes its inks at its own facility near Aintree Racecourse, on the edge of the city.
No. Goulet Pens says it isn't water resistant at all, and Mountain of Ink rated it low; it will run if a page gets wet.
Does Diamine Sherwood Green sheen?
A little. Goulet says the right pen and paper give a touch of red sheen; Mountain of Ink rated the sheen low and saw more of it in large swabs on Tomoe River paper.
What's the difference between the 30 ml and 80 ml Diamine bottles?
Size and material. Goulet lists the 30 ml in a plastic bottle with an 11.9 mm opening; Diamine sells the 80 ml in its glass bottle. The ink is the same.
Is Sherwood Green a good ink for vintage pens?
Diamine describes its standard inks as water-based, non-toxic and acid-free, and suitable for any fountain pen, especially vintage models.
Does Sherwood Green feather on copy paper?
Slightly. Mountain of Ink found some feathering and a few dots of bleeding on Staples 24 lb copy paper, and none on better paper.
Is Diamine ink made in the UK?
Yes. Diamine says it makes its inks at its own facility near Aintree, on the edge of Liverpool, England.
