Quick answer

Tombow MONO Air is a side-application correction tape built to pull lightly from the first meter to the last. Tombow's Air Touch system locks the tape when you lift the head, instead of tearing it against the reel's resistance. Each disposable dispenser holds 10 m; Japan sells 4.2, 5 and 6 mm widths, the US the 6 mm item 68695.

Released: Tombow Japan's history of its correction tapes dates the MONO Air and its Air Touch System to 2016.
  • Colors: names per Tombow Japan, checked October 27, 2026. The seven colored bodies in the disposable lineup on Tombow's Japanese MONO Air page (Japanese names and item codes in each note; English names as used in this guide). What is Tombow MONO Air correction tape?

MONO Air is Tombow’s light-pull correction tape: a palm-size, side-application dispenser that lays a strip of white film you can write on straight away. Tombow says it stays easy to pull from the first use until the tape runs out.

It sits beside the classic Tombow MONO Original in Tombow’s range. Tombow Japan dates it to 2016, and Tombow USA calls it the first correction tape using flexible resistance.

How does the Air Touch System work?

When you lift the head off the paper, the mechanism locks the tape supply, so the tape breaks off cleanly without needing resistance from the reel. On a normal tape the reel’s drag is what snaps the tape, and that drag is felt in every pull.

Tombow Japan’s comparison is simple: older tapes get heavier to pull as the reel runs low, and MONO Air doesn’t. Tombow also says the clicking sound is quieter, so it’s less noticeable in a library or an exam.

Which width should you choose?

Pick the width that covers one line of your writing without spilling into the next. A tape wider than your line spacing also covers part of the line above or below.

MONO Air tape widths 4.2, 5 and 6 mm drawn to scale on ruled lines, with codes CT-CA4, CT-CA5 and CT-CA6
The three widths at 1 mm = 12 px; every size holds 10 m.

In the US the choice is made for you: Tombow USA sells only the 6 mm, which suits wide-ruled paper. The 4.2 and 5 mm are Japanese imports, sold by stationery shops that carry Tombow Japan stock.

What colours does MONO Air come in?

In Japan, the body comes in a standard colour per width and in eight newer colours; the tape is always white. Tombow Japan lists lime (4.2 mm), blue (5 mm) and pink (6 mm), plus sheer white, ash blue, dark grey and mauve pink in 5 mm.

The colour only marks the body. US shoppers mostly see the 6 mm 68695 sold by Tombow USA.

How does MONO Air compare with other correction tapes?

It has the same 10 m of tape as the MONO Original, with a lighter, steadier pull; the BIC holds more tape for less.

Tape Width Length Refillable Price band
Tombow MONO Air 68695 6 mm 10 m No $
Tombow MONO Original 4.2 mm 10 m No $
Tombow MONO Air pen-style 68696 5 mm 6 m Yes $
BIC Wite-Out EZ Correct 4.2 mm 12 m No $

Tombow Japan adds two cautions: some copiers and printers may not print on corrected areas, and pencil can lift the tape. Tombow’s first correction tape dates to 1991, per its Japanese site; our Tombow history covers the company’s pencil roots.

Where is Tombow MONO Air made?

Tombow doesn’t say. Tombow Pencil is based in Tokyo, but none of the maker or retailer pages we read give the country of manufacture, so check the pack.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Tombow MONO Air feel easier to pull than other correction tapes?

Ordinary tapes cut the strip by pulling against the reel's resistance, which gets heavier as the tape runs low. MONO Air's Air Touch System locks the tape supply instead, so Tombow says the pull stays light to the end.

How long is the tape in a MONO Air?

10 m (394 in) in every width, per Tombow Japan and Tombow USA. That's the same length as the MONO Original.

Can you refill the MONO Air correction tape?

No, the 68695 and the Japanese CT-CA models are disposable. Tombow USA sells a separate refillable pen-style MONO Air, item 68696, with 5 mm × 6 m cartridges.

Which MONO Air width should I buy?

Match the tape to your line spacing: 4.2 mm for small writing, 5 mm for narrow-ruled notebooks and 6 mm for wide-ruled pages. Only the 6 mm is sold by Tombow USA.

Can you write on MONO Air tape with a pencil?

You can, but Tombow Japan warns that rewriting with a mechanical pencil can sometimes lift the tape. Pens work best.

Is Tombow MONO Air made in Japan?

Tombow doesn't say. Tombow is a Japanese company, but its Japanese and US pages and the Amazon listings we read give no country of manufacture.
