What is Tombow Aqua PiT?

It is a liquid glue with two applicators on one bottle. Tombow describes a twin-type liquid glue that handles both fine and large pasting. One end has a fine tip for small, precise jobs. The other is a wide tip made of silicone rubber, so glue that has hardened on it can be taken off easily.

It belongs to Tombow’s PiT glues, alongside the Kieiro PiT stick. For a stick that avoids wrinkling, see the Shiwa Nashi PiT.

What are the sizes and prices?

A 50 ml bottle and a 500 ml refill. Tombow lists these, with tax.

Item Part number Volume Price with tax
Aqua PiT body PT-WT 50 ml 220 yen (about US$1.39)
Refill glue PR-WT 500 ml 990 yen (about US$6.27)

Prices are Japanese list prices at 158 yen to the dollar. The refill costs about 2 yen a milliliter against 4.4 yen for the body, so refilling is cheaper per milliliter by our arithmetic.

Is the refill worth buying?

If you use a lot of glue, yes. Ten 50 ml bottles would cost 2,200 yen (about US$13.92) with tax, against 990 yen (about US$6.27) for 500 ml of refill glue, a saving of 1,210 yen (about US$7.66) by our arithmetic. You also keep one bottle and its two tips instead of throwing away ten. Tombow lists only these two sizes, so a light user may find 500 ml far more than they need.

Is it safe for paper and photos?

Tombow says it is acid free. The company states that the glue contains no acid, so it should not discolor paper or writing after use. That is a claim about discoloration, not a statement that the glue is archival or photo-safe, and Tombow gives no photographic test.

How do you use and store it?

Close the cap each time and keep it away from heat. Tombow’s cautions are to cap the bottle after use, avoid using or leaving it in high temperatures, keep it away from small children, and use it only for bonding. Because the wide tip is silicone, peel off any dried glue before storing it.

How does it compare with the other liquid glue?

Aqua PiT is the refillable one. Tombow’s other liquid glue, PiT Multi 2, is a two-way type; see our PiT Multi 2 guide. Neither is a tape: for dry adhesive without liquid, use the Tombow MONO Adhesive Permanent or the KOKUYO Dot Liner.

Where is it made, and what does it cost?

Tombow’s page doesn’t state a country of manufacture. The company is based in Tokyo. The 50 ml bottle at 220 yen with tax (about US$1.39) is in our $ band (under $5); the 500 ml refill at 990 yen (about US$6.27) is in $$ ($5 to $20).
