What is Tombow PiT Hi-Power?

It is Tombow’s strong glue stick for card and envelopes. Tombow calls it the standard of its glue sticks and says it bonds fast and firmly, so it is meant for the heavier jobs: envelopes, drawing paper and card, as well as ordinary paper. The headline on its page is that it works quickly and holds well.

It is the plain, uncolored member of the PiT stick family. Where the Kieiro PiT shows blue glue that clears as it dries, and the Shiwa Nashi PiT is aimed at paper that wrinkles, the Hi-Power is the one Tombow pushes for strength.

What sizes and prices does it come in?

Three sizes, from 10 g to 40 g. Tombow lists these, all with tax.

Size Part number Glue weight Price with tax
S PT-TP 10 g 154 yen (about US$0.97)
N PT-NP 22 g 286 yen (about US$1.81)
G PT-GP 40 g 440 yen (about US$2.78)

Prices are Japanese list prices at 158 yen to the dollar. Tombow says the glue comes in three thicknesses, one per size, but gives no body dimensions or stick widths, so we do not draw to scale.

Who is the PiT Hi-Power for?

It suits anyone gluing card, drawing paper or envelopes who wants a stick rather than a runner. The fact behind that is Tombow’s own positioning: strong, fast bonding on heavy paper.

  • Heavier paper: Tombow names envelopes, drawing paper and card as the jobs it is built for.

Skip it if you want to see where you have glued: the Hi-Power page describes no color-changing glue, and the Kieiro PiT is the blue-to-clear type.

How well does it stick?

Tombow says it bonds quickly and strongly, including on thick paper. The page gives no test result or peel figure, so treat it as a maker claim. Tombow also notes that on some papers the glue may peel off easily, and says to put on more glue if that happens. Tombow says to use it only for gluing, and its page speaks only of paper and card.

What should you watch out for?

Wind the glue out only 3 to 4 mm, cap it, and keep it cool. Tombow says that winding the glue out too far can stop it winding back in. It says to put the cap on after every use and to avoid using or leaving the stick in high heat. On thermal paper such as receipts the printing may fade, so keep it off anything you need to read later. Like all glue, it should be kept out of reach of small children and not put in the mouth or used for anything but gluing.

What is it made of, and is there a black one?

A recycled-plastic body. Tombow lists the Hi-Power as a Green Tombow product, using at least 70% recycled plastic by weight excluding the glue, with the Eco Mark, Green Purchasing Law compliance and a listing on the GPN eco-products site. The Hi-Power S Black is a separate page: it is described as having the same adhesive as the standard Hi-Power, with a matte black and gray body and white-colored glue, at 154 yen (about US$0.97) for 10 g. Four limited 2026 designs, priced at 176 yen (about US$1.11), were listed as available while stock lasts. See our Hi-Power S Aroma guide for the scented 10 g version.

Where is it made, and what does it cost?

Tombow’s page doesn’t state a country of manufacture. The company is based in Tokyo. At 154 to 440 yen with tax (about US$0.97 to US$2.78), every size is in our $ band (under $5).
