## What is Wearingeul?

**Wearingeul is a South Korean stationery brand that makes fountain pen inks based on works of literature.** US retailer The Paper Mouse says a calligrapher started it in 2016, and that its first product was a Book Perfume that turned a story into a scent.

The same idea, asking what color a story would be, led to inks, swatch cards and paper. The Paper Mouse describes Wearingeul today as a team of ten people.

Wearingeul's own site returned an access-restricted page when we tried to read it on October 29, 2026. The facts here come from the US and UK shops listed in Sources, and we name the shop each time.

## What are Wearingeul's literature collections?

**The inks are grouped by author or theme under a project Wearingeul calls The Color of Literature.** Endless Pens says the ink line began in 2018 with inks based on the Korean poets Yun Dong-ju and Yi Sang, and that the Color of Literature project followed in 2019.

| Collection | Examples named by shops |
|---|---|
| Korean literature | Yun Dong-ju, Yi Sang, Jeong Ji-yong, Lee Yuk-sa, Kim So-wol, Korean Female Modern Writer |
| World Literature Collection I | Resurrection, Jane Eyre, Don Quixote, Pride and Prejudice, The Great Gatsby, Faust |
| World Literature Collections II and III | Further classics, sold as separate sets |
| Author series | Oscar Wilde, William Shakespeare, Natsume Soseki, Alice in Wonderland |
| World Myth | Gods and heroes, such as Hades and Persephone |

Goldspot says the Monthly World Literature set covers motifs from 14 works of fiction and 1 poem. Each ink aims to capture a scene or mood: Goldspot describes Resurrection as the blue-mint cold of Siberia, with soft shading.

## What size are Wearingeul bottles?

**Every Wearingeul ink we found comes in a 30 ml (1 fl oz) square glass bottle.** Goldspot lists the product size as 41 × 41 × 55 mm (1.6 × 1.6 × 2.2 in), without saying whether that's the bottle or its box.

| Size | What it is | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 30 ml | Standard ink bottle | Goulet Pens, Goldspot, Jenni Bick, The Journal Shop |
| 10 ml | Glitter Potion, a shimmer additive | Dromgoole's, Endless Pens |
| 4 ml | Sample vial | Vanness |
| 2 ml | Sample vial | Goulet Pens |

To fill a cartridge from a sample vial, an [ink syringe](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/goulet-ink-syringes/) is the tidy way.

## Do Wearingeul inks shimmer or sheen?

**Some do and some don't, so check each ink's listing.** Goldspot's text, which reads like the maker's own, says the inks have effects such as sheen or color division (color separation as the ink spreads).

- **The Nightingale and the Rose:** a beige-toned light brown base with red glitter, per Jenni Bick; Goulet Pens calls it brown with red shimmer.
- **Soyoungwije:** a deep violet with silver shimmer and brown sheen, per Vanness.
- **World Literature Collection I:** no shimmer and not waterproof, per The Journal Shop.

Dromgoole's adds "Glistening" to the names of shimmer bottles, such as The Secret Garden and Alice. Our guide to [ink properties](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/fountain-pen-ink-properties-explained/) explains sheen, shimmer and shading.

## Are shimmer inks safe in a fountain pen?

**Yes, with extra care.** Goulet Pens warns that the particles in The Nightingale and the Rose may restrict flow in some pens, and advises shaking the bottle before filling and rolling the pen often.

Clean the pen promptly, and pick one that's easy to flush. Jenni Bick also says careful cleaning is needed to prevent clogs.

## How does Wearingeul compare with other shimmer and Japanese inks?

**Wearingeul sits between a 20 ml Sailor bottle and a 50 ml Herbin shimmer bottle.**

|---|---|---|---|
| Country | South Korea | France | Japan |
| Bottle | 30 ml | 50 ml | 20 ml |
| Shimmer | Some inks | Gold | No |
| Price band | $$$ | $$$ | $$ |

Herbin and Sailor figures come from their own guides.

## How much does Wearingeul ink cost?

**It's in our $$$ band, $20–75 a bottle, at every US shop we checked.** On October 29, 2026, Goulet Pens and Goldspot listed 30 ml bottles at US$28.00, Vanness and Jenni Bick at US$27.00, and Dromgoole's at US$25.00.

On the same day Goulet sold 2 ml samples at US$3.50 and Dromgoole's a 10 ml Glitter Potion at US$15.00. In the UK, The Journal Shop listed World Literature Collection I bottles at £26.00 (about US$34).

## Where is Wearingeul ink made?

**In South Korea.** Goulet Pens and Jenni Bick say the inks are made there, and Goldspot, Vanness and The Journal Shop give Korea as the country of origin.

## Frequently asked questions

### What was Wearingeul's first ink collection?

Inks based on two Korean poets, Yun Dong-ju and Yi Sang, launched in 2018 according to Endless Pens. Names include The Sky, Seasons Passing By, Shoot the Moon and Soyoungwije.

### Which Wearingeul inks have shimmer?

Only some do. The Nightingale and the Rose has red shimmer and Soyoungwije silver, while The Journal Shop lists World Literature Collection I as having none; Dromgoole's adds Glistening to the names of shimmer bottles.

### Is Wearingeul ink waterproof?

No, not the inks we checked. Goulet Pens lists The Nightingale and the Rose as not water resistant, and The Journal Shop lists World Literature Collection I as not waterproof.

### Can I try a Wearingeul ink before buying a bottle?

Yes. Goulet Pens sells 2 ml samples and Vanness 4 ml samples, decanted from the 30 ml bottles, which costs far less than a full bottle.

### Why does my Wearingeul ink look oily on top?

Goldspot's listing, which reads as the maker's own text, says the literature inks may form a very small amount of oil from temperature and humidity. It says this doesn't affect color, flow or durability, and a light shake may clear it.

### Is Wearingeul ink made in the USA?

No. US shops such as Goulet Pens and Jenni Bick say Wearingeul inks are made in South Korea.

### What is a Wearingeul Glitter Potion?

It's a 10 ml bottle of shimmer you add to an ink. Endless Pens says a few drops add sparkle without changing the base color.
