What is the Exacompta A4 register?
It is a numbered-page ledger book, the kind of product Exacompta was founded on. Exacompta’s French page says the squared register is for recording facts, minutes and orders on numbered pages, and its About page says the company began in Paris in 1928 as a workshop making registers and diaries (see the history with Clairefontaine).
We read Exacompta’s French product pages on November 2, 2026. Translations are ours.
Why are the pages numbered?
Exacompta says numbering prevents falsification of the recorded data. Its page uses the French word folioté for the numbered pages and describes the book for recording facts, minutes and orders.
It doesn’t say the book meets any legal or accounting register rule, so check your own requirements before using it for a record that must.
What are the 412E specs?
A 297 × 210 mm book of 200 pages, ruled 5 × 5 mm, weighing 1,020 g. All from Exacompta’s page for item 412E.

What is the cover like?
A rigid board covered in black cloth. Exacompta says the cloth gives better resistance and a longer life. It doesn’t describe the binding, say whether the book opens flat or give a thickness, so our drawing leaves the spine thickness out.
How thick are the pages, and what is the tint for?
The paper is 110 g/m², which is heavier than everyday copier paper. Exacompta says it is slightly tinted, chosen to rest the eyes, and matte for easy, clear writing.
It names no ink rating, so we haven’t claimed one. Compare the paper facts of other French notebooks in the Clairefontaine My.Essential guide.
What does the 5 × 5 grid look like?
Squares of 5 mm on each side. Exacompta lists the ruling as 5x5. The drawing below enlarges a 40 × 40 mm patch to show eight by eight squares.
It suits anyone keeping a long, ordered record, such as minutes, orders or a logbook, on pages that cannot be quietly swapped. The 412E has 200 numbered pages of 110 g/m² paper ruled in 5 × 5 mm squares.
Journaling and planning: the numbered pages and square grid fit a long-running log or diary kept in one book.
Skip it for carrying around: at 1,020 g and A4 size it is a desk book, and Exacompta states no ink rating.
Which page count should you choose?
Pick by how long the record must run. The same cloth register comes in three page counts, all 297 × 210 mm, 5 × 5 and 110 g/m².
