What is the Hobonichi Techo Original avec 2027?
The Original avec is the A6 Hobonichi Techo split into two thinner books, one for each half of 2027. Book 1 covers January to June and has a lime yellow cover; book 2 covers July to December in ice blue.
Hobonichi says the layout and paper are the same as the one-book Hobonichi Techo Original, with small differences in calendar ranges and bonus pages. The point is weight: you carry half a year at a time, and the book stays slim even when you paste in tickets and photos.

Should you choose the avec or the one-book Original?
Choose the avec if you carry your planner every day or fill it with pasted things; choose the one-book Original if you want the whole year in one place, or an English edition.
- Carry: about 110 g per book against about 195 g for the Original, before a cover.
- Thickness: 8 mm per book, so it stays thinner as it fills up.
- Price: ¥3,080 (about US$19) for the avec pair against ¥2,860 (about US$18) for the 2027 English Original, both with tax at Hobonichi.
- Language: the avec is Japanese only; the Original also comes in English.
Both books have the same 377 daily pages. The avec gives you a fresh book in July, which some people use to start a new theme for the second half of the year.
What does a daily page look like?
Each day gets one A6 page with a date line, a 3.7 mm grid and a daily quote at the foot. Hobonichi’s page lists a quote on every page, a mini monthly calendar on right-hand pages and the moon phase on every daily page.
Being the Japanese edition, the pages also carry Japanese calendar details such as the old lunar calendar and the 24 solar terms. Bonus pages at the back include Favorites, My 100, diary-starting phrases and a guide to Hobonichi’s Kanda neighborhood in Tokyo.
What paper does the avec use?
The avec uses Hobonichi’s thin Tomoe River planner paper, the same as the regular Original. Hunter Paper Co. calls it Tomoe River S; our Tomoe River paper guide explains the switch to Sanzen’s paper.
Hobonichi warns that depending on the pen and ink, writing can bleed, show through or dry slowly. A fine nib, a pencil board and blotting paper help.
Which cover fits the Hobonichi avec?
Any Original (A6) Hobonichi cover fits, because each avec book is A6. Hobonichi says the avec takes the same covers as the regular edition. Since each book is half as thick, a cover closes more easily and leaves room for a second book or extras.
For the A5 version with weekly pages, see the Hobonichi Cousin avec 2027. Our Hobonichi lineup guide compares every book.
Where is the Hobonichi avec made?
Hunter Paper Co. lists the 2027 Original avec books as made in Japan. Hobonichi’s own store page doesn’t name the country for the books. Hobonichi Co., Ltd. is based in Tokyo.
Frequently asked questions
What does avec mean in Hobonichi?
Avec is French for "with". Hobonichi uses it for the split editions of its planners, which divide the year into two six-month books.
Is the Hobonichi avec available in English?
Not for 2027. Hobonichi's English store lists the Original avec only as a Japanese edition with Monday-start calendars.
Do Hobonichi Original covers fit the avec?
Yes. Hobonichi says the avec uses the same covers as the regular Original, because each book is the same A6 size, only thinner.
How heavy is a Hobonichi avec book?
About 110 g each, per Hobonichi's Japanese store, so one book weighs a little over half as much as the 195 g one-book Original.
Does the avec have weekly pages?
No. Like the regular Original, the Original avec has yearly and monthly calendars and one page per day, but no weekly pages; the Cousin avec has them.
When do the avec books start and end?
Book 1 has daily pages from January 1 to June 30, 2027, and book 2 from July 1 to December 31, 2027. Monthly calendars overlap by a month or two at the handover.
Is the Hobonichi avec made in the USA?
No, in Japan, per Hunter Paper Co.'s 2027 listing. Hobonichi doesn't name the country on its own store page.
