What is the STALOGY 365Days notebook?
The STALOGY Editor’s Series 365Days is a thick, soft-cover Japanese notebook with enough thin pages to write one page a day for a year. STALOGY says it was designed around the way editors (編集者) work, hence the series name. Each page carries faint date numbers and hour marks, so it can serve as a diary, but the marks are light enough to ignore.
Reviewers often describe it as a plainer alternative to the Hobonichi Techo. One reviewer called it a good substitute for the larger Hobonichi Cousin if you want less structure.

How thin is the paper, and does it ghost?
At 52 g/m², the paper is about two-thirds the weight of the 80 g/m² paper in a Leuchtturm1917 Medium, which is how STALOGY fits 368 pages into one book. Thin paper keeps the book light, but it shows writing through from the other side (ghosting).
Galen Leather describes the paper as bleed-proof, and reviewers at The Pen Addict and The Well-Appointed Desk generally like it with fountain pens. The Pen Addict’s 2025 review found it indistinguishable from Tomoe River, while its 2017 review found it slightly more textured; a Wonder Pens customer review says it dries faster than Tomoe River.
STALOGY’s own claim is that it resists bleed-through (裏抜けしにくい). Ghosting is the main complaint, especially with very saturated inks.
Can you use the STALOGY 365Days as a planner?
Yes, loosely: the faint date and hour marks let you use it as a daily diary, but nothing is pre-dated. You write the date yourself, so you can start on any day and skip days without wasting pages.
Reviewers describe the marks and grid as small and faint, which suits people who want a notebook first. One early reviewer noted that 368 pages cover a year well but leave little room for extra notes or reference pages.
How does the STALOGY 365Days compare to a Hobonichi Techo?
The Hobonichi Techo Original is a dated A6 planner; the STALOGY 365Days is a plainer notebook that also comes in A5.
| STALOGY 365Days A5 | Hobonichi Techo Original | |
|---|---|---|
| Size | 148 × 210 mm | 105 × 148 mm (A6) |
| Pages | 368 | 464 |
| Paper | 52 g/m² | Tomoe River |
| Dates | Faint marks, you fill them in | Printed for each day |

If you mainly want good fountain pen paper and don’t need a year in one book, see our best notebooks for fountain pens. The Midori MD Notebook A5 is a thread-bound option with heavier paper. If a page a day feels like too much, the Q&A a Day 5-Year Journal asks one short question per date.
Which size and layout should you choose?
Choose the A5 for a desk journal with room to write, and the B6 or A6 if it has to fit in a bag. The A5 page is about the size of a Leuchtturm1917 or Midori MD A5.
- Grid: for lists, tables and sketches; the layout STALOGY sells in all four sizes.
- Lined: STALOGY’s 7 mm ruled A5 (SS1012), with triangle marks to split the page into two or four columns.
- Dot grid or blank: listed by Galen Leather and other export retailers; we didn’t find them on STALOGY’s Japanese site, so they may be export-market versions.
How much does the STALOGY 365Days cost?
The A5 365Days falls in our $$$ band ($20–75 per notebook). That’s more than a basic notebook, but it holds a full year of pages.
It costs less in Japan: STALOGY’s Japanese site lists the black A5 (S4101) at ¥2,937 (about US$19) including tax, just under our $$ ceiling. We keep the $$$ band because it reflects typical US retail after import, not the Japanese list price.
Where is the STALOGY 365Days made?
In Japan: Amazon Japan lists 原産国 (country of origin) 日本 for the black A5, S4101. Galen Leather also lists Japan for its grid, dot grid and blank versions. STALOGY’s About page says Nitoms, Inc., a Japanese company in the Nitto group, develops, manufactures and sells STALOGY products; the product pages themselves don’t name a country.

In Japan, according to Amazon Japan's listing (原産国: 日本) and Galen Leather. STALOGY says its maker, Nitoms, develops, manufactures and sells the line.
