What is the Hobonichi Weeks?

The Hobonichi Techo Weeks is a tall, slim weekly planner: one week per spread, with the days on the left page and grid paper on the right. It is the weekly book in Hobonichi’s planner range, beside the page-a-day A6 Hobonichi Techo Original and the A5 Hobonichi Cousin.

Hobonichi’s Japanese store says the Weeks was born with the 2011 edition. The 2027 books went on sale on September 1, 2026, with the rest of Hobonichi’s 2027 lineup.

Figures are from Hobonichi’s Japanese store page for the White Line: Black book (Japanese and English editions), which notes that sizes vary slightly from book to book. Dromgoole’s gives 188 × 94 × 10 mm and Hunter Paper Co. “under 140 g”, so expect small differences between listings.

To-scale drawing of the Hobonichi Weeks, 95 × 186 mm, against the Hobonichi Original A6 outline, 105 × 148 mm, and the Cousin A5 outline, 148 × 210 mm, with page counts of 240, 464 and 544
The Weeks is narrower than an A6 book but 38 mm taller (1 mm = 1.25 px).

How big is the Hobonichi Weeks?

At 186 × 95 mm, the Weeks is about the size of a long wallet: 10 mm narrower than an A6 book and 38 mm taller. Boston General Store makes the same wallet comparison. The narrow shape slips into a jacket pocket or a small bag where an A5 planner won’t fit.

At 11 mm thick and about 133 g, it is also much thinner and lighter than the page-a-day books. Hobonichi lists the A6 Original at 15 mm and about 195 g, and the A5 Cousin at 18 mm and about 445 g.

What does a week look like in the Weeks?

Each spread shows one week as seven rows on the left page, starting on Monday, and a page of grid paper on the right. The narrow rows suit short entries: appointments, deadlines and a line or two of notes per day.

The grid page is free space for lists, tasks or a small journal entry. Hobonichi gives the Weeks grid as 3.55 mm (Sortdays and Milligram round it to 3.5 mm); the Original uses 3.7 mm.

Which cover should you choose?

Pick the cover when you buy, because the Weeks has no separate book: each design is a bound-in cover. Retailers list leather, fabric, PVC and illustrated covers for 2027.

Hobonichi says White Line: Black has been popular ever since the first Weeks in the 2011 edition. It is a soft black PVC cover with a single white stripe, and each Weeks comes with a clear pocket with an adhesive back that you can stick where you like. In US shops, the Smooth covers cost more than White Line: Black, though all the listings we saw stay in our $$$ band.

How does the Weeks compare to other planners?

Choose the Weeks if you plan by the week and want to carry it everywhere; choose a page-a-day book if you journal every day.

The Moleskine 12-Month Weekly Planner has the same week-plus-notes idea on a wider page. For all the main 2027 options, see the best 2027 journals.

Does the Hobonichi Weeks lie flat?

Not on its own: Hobonichi says the soft cover means you need to press the pages lightly by hand to open it flat to 180°. The trade-off is a book you can grip, flip and slip into a pocket.

Tomoe River S is thin, so writing shows through from the other side. Hobonichi sells a Pencil Board in a Weeks size to put under the page you’re writing on.

When does the 2027 Weeks start?

The 2027 English Weeks starts its weekly pages on November 30, 2026, so you can begin a month early. The weeks run to January 2, 2028, and the monthly calendars to March 2028.

Hobonichi also sells April-start Weeks books in Japanese. Don’t confuse the Weeks with Hobonichi’s separate Weekly Calendar 2027, a thin 140 × 95 mm booklet.

Where is the Hobonichi Weeks made?

Retailers list the 2027 Weeks as made in Japan. Sortdays and Milligram state it on their listings. Hobonichi’s own store page doesn’t name the country of manufacture; check the label on your copy.
