What is the Moleskine MoMA Van Gogh notebook?
It is a Large, ruled, hard-cover Moleskine made with The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), with a detail of Vincent van Gogh’s The Starry Night on the cover. Moleskine’s US page says the artwork brings you up close to one of the best-known works of modern art, and that the collection is about capturing “flashes of inspiration.”
It belongs to a wider 2026 collection. Moleskine Japan’s announcement, reported by Holiday Travel, says the collection went on sale on September 15, 2026 and centers on the painting’s crescent moon, swirling stars, cypress tree and village rooftops.

All of it comes from Moleskine’s US and Italian product pages, read October 27, 2026. The cover is listed only as “Multicolour,” so we don’t list swatches.
How much does it cost?
It sits in our $$$ band ($20–75). On October 27, 2026, Moleskine’s US store listed it at US$33.00 and in stock, and its Italian store at €32.00 (about US$36). Moleskine Japan’s announcement priced the Large ruled hard cover at ¥5,170 (about US$33).
For comparison, the Classic Large hard cover is €24.00 (about US$27) on Moleskine’s Italian site, so the collaboration costs about a third more for the artwork and the heavier paper. These are list prices on those days, not a promise of today’s price.
How is it different from the Classic Notebook?
On paper it matches the Classic’s format but lists heavier paper and carries the artwork. Moleskine’s Italian page for the Moleskine Classic Notebook lists 70 g/m² paper and 240 pages for the Large hard cover. The MoMA page lists 100 g/m² and no page count.
| MoMA Van Gogh (Large, ruled) | Classic (Large, ruled) | |
|---|---|---|
| Paper | 100 g/m², ivory, acid-free | 70 g/m², ivory, acid-free |
| Pages | Not stated | 240 |
| Cover | Starry Night detail | Plain black |
| List price (Moleskine Italy) | €32.00 (about US$36) | €24.00 (about US$27) |
If page count matters to you, the Classic’s stated 240 pages are the safer number. For the full size chart, see our Moleskine notebook sizes guide.
Is it good for fountain pens?
We haven’t tested it, so test before you commit. Moleskine lists 100 g/m² paper, which is heavier than the Classic’s 70 g/m², and heavier paper usually resists show-through better. But reviewers of the 70 g/m² Classic paper report feathering and bleed-through, and nothing we found tests this edition’s paper.
Try a fine nib and a dry ink on the back page. If bleed-through matters most, our best notebooks for fountain pens lists papers chosen for it, and the Leuchtturm1917 Medium A5 uses 80 g/m² paper.
What else is in the collection?
Moleskine’s US store sells a wider MoMA Van Gogh collection. On October 27, 2026 it listed:
- Cahier Journals: a set of 2 Large plain at US$20.00 and a single at US$11.00.
- A Drawing Set (three XL plain Cahier Journals, five drawing pencils, gift box) at US$44.00.
- A Premium Set (ruled notebook, Kaweco ballpoint, gift box) at US$64.00.
- A 2027 Weekly Planner (Large, hard cover, 12 months) at US$36.00.
Moleskine Japan’s list adds The Mini, a charm-size notebook, and a Collector’s Box with a Kaweco ballpoint at ¥8,690 (about US$55). Our Moleskine Cahier Journal guide covers the softer, thinner format.
Which Moleskine should you buy?
Choose the MoMA notebook if you want the artwork and the heavier listed paper, and the Classic if you want the stated 240 pages and the lowest price. If you are comparing Moleskine with other brands, our Moleskine vs Leuchtturm1917 guide sets them side by side, and our Moleskine history explains how the brand got here.
Why it’s here
It is a 2026 launch from a brand US readers search for, with an official US page, a price and a clear spec list. We checked that no existing guide covers it, and that the facts we list come from Moleskine’s own pages. We haven’t handled the notebook, so we give no verdict on paper or binding.
