What is the MATOKA COTOMO Pocket Cover?
It is a thin PVC cover for one small notebook, with a slider pocket on the front for the bits that usually fall out of a bag. EL COMMUN, a Japanese stationery company, sells it under its MATOKA brand as part of the COTOMO series, which the maker describes as stationery that is easy to carry. The shop calls it the “cover with pocket”.
The maker says the pocket takes small things such as stickers and scissors, and that the cover is thin enough to carry easily while keeping the notebook from creasing and getting dirty. We read EL COMMUN’s online shop on November 4, 2026.
What are the size and features?
It measures 142 × 187 mm and 6 mm thick, and has three storage spots. These figures are from the maker’s spec list.
| Spec | EL COMMUN says |
|---|---|
| Size | 14.2 × 18.7 × 0.6 cm (142 × 187 × 6 mm; 5.6 × 7.4 × 0.2 in) |
| Material | PVC |
| Slider-closing pocket | |
| Other storage | One card pocket, one pen holder |
| Holds | One COTOMO notebook (sold separately) |
| Colors | 8, codes CTM-021 to CTM-028 |
| Made in | Japan |
| Price | ¥1,100 (about US$7.00) including tax |
The maker doesn’t give a weight or say how many cards the card pocket holds. For the line-up of other COTOMO products, see the COTOMO series.
Which notebooks fit inside?
The maker says one COTOMO notebook, and the sizes agree. The COTOMO Notebook is 125 × 180 mm, so the cover is 17 mm wider and 7 mm taller than the book it carries. The maker’s COTOMO Log Notebook has the same 125 × 180 mm size.
The maker doesn’t say whether other B6 notebooks fit. Its two-notebook Twin Cover is described for B6-size notebooks, but the Pocket Cover page names only the COTOMO notebook. Our notebook sizes chart lists B6 sizes from other makers, which differ by a few millimeters, so measure before you assume.
What colors does it come in?
Eight, named for the small animal on each cover. The shop lists Whale, Hedgehog, Chameleon, Shimaenaga (a long-tailed tit), Pom-dog, Dinosaur, Cat and Astronaut. In EL COMMUN’s photos the covers run from navy and tan to mint, pink, beige and near-black. The shop gives no color names, so the tints in the colors list are our reading of its photos.
How does it compare with the rest of the COTOMO series?
It is the cheapest cover in the line, and the one the maker describes with a slider pocket. The maker’s series page lists these prices, all including tax, with the converted dollars at our rates.
| Product | What it does | Maker’s price |
|---|---|---|
| Pocket Cover | Holds one notebook, with a slider pocket | ¥1,100 (about US$7.00) |
| Twin Cover | Holds two B6-size notebooks or planners | ¥2,090 (about US$13) |
| Multi Pouch | Keeps a notebook and cards together, with a card holder | ¥1,650 (about US$10) |
| Notebook | 64 pages in three rulings | ¥418 (about US$2.65) |
The same company also makes the Deco Loop roller stamps that use some of the same animal drawings.
Who is the Pocket Cover for?
It suits people who carry one small notebook and want a few stickers, cards or a pen kept with it. The maker built it around three storage spots and a thin PVC body.
Skip it if you want a cover for two notebooks (the Twin Cover is the maker’s answer) or one for an unstated size: the maker’s page names only the COTOMO notebook.
Where is it made, and what does it cost?
In Japan, and ¥1,100 (about US$7.00) including tax, in our $$ band ($5–20). The maker’s series page lists ¥1,000 (about US$6.35) before tax and ¥1,100 (about US$7.00) with it. We did not find a US retailer price for the cover, so the dollar figure is a conversion of the Japanese price, and overseas prices will include shipping and tax.
