It’s a book-style leather case with a zip all round and 40 elastic loops, made to carry or store a whole pen collection. Galen Leather, a family company in Istanbul, sells it through its US and Turkish stores and through US shops such as Goulet Pens. Galen’s US listing dates from April 2019.
It’s the biggest of Galen’s zippered pen cases, which also come in 3, 5, 10 and 20 slot versions. On October 22, 2026 it was the 26th product in Galen’s own “best selling” sort, and Goulet’s Galen page showed 21 reviews for the Crazy Horse Brown case.

Galen and Goulet give the same size. Galen’s Turkish store lists the Natürel (undyed) case at ₺6,340 (about US$128), and Galen’s US store listed the Forest Green case at US$125 on October 22, 2026.
How are 40 pens arranged inside?
In layers: the case opens like a book, and a stiff centre divider holds pens on both of its sides. The Well-Appointed Desk, which reviewed a case Galen sent in June 2019, found twenty pens in the first section once a protective suede flap was lifted, then more pens under a second flap on the right.
It found a sturdy board under the divider’s suede, so the divider carried a full load of pens well. Galen itself doesn’t publish a loop-by-loop layout.
Which pens fit the Galen 40 slot case?
Pens up to 145 mm (5.6 in) long, according to Galen and Goulet. That covers many standard capped fountain pens, such as the LAMY safari at 139.5 mm and the Pilot Custom 74 at 143 mm.
Larger pens are close to the limit. Our Montblanc Meisterstück 149 guide gives 146.1 mm capped and our TWSBI VAC700R guide 147 mm, so both run slightly over Galen’s figure.
Girth matters too. The Well-Appointed Desk fitted pens from a petite Pilot Decimo to an Opus 88 Coloro and an Aurora Optima, but the slimmest pens it tried were too thin for the loops to hold.

It’s the one for storing or transporting a collection, not for daily carry.

What are the downsides?
It’s thick, and the loops don’t suit every pen. At 80 mm (3.2 in) deep it’s a shelf or bag item rather than a pocket one; The Well-Appointed Desk found it much thicker than a Monteverde 36-pen case, though shorter and narrower.
Very slim pens can slip in the elastic, and pens over 145 mm won’t fit. Galen’s lead-time page also says handmade orders typically ship in one to two weeks.
