Notes on these facts
- Country of manufacture not stated: Neither Yoseka's listings nor bungu.store's say where the slim tapes are made, and BGM's own site (bgm.co.jp) could not be reached from our servers, so we don't state an origin. Price: example listing.
- Colors: names per Yoseka Stationery product photos, checked November 3, 2026. Tints were sampled from Yoseka's product photos and are approximate; the tape carries printed or foil artwork that isn't reproduced here. Tints are representative, not measured. Shops stock different colors.
- How we test and disclose samples: How we test stationery.
- Price bands are typical US retail, checked October 2026. Conversions to US dollars are approximate, at October 2026 rates (US$1 = ¥158 = ₩1,330 = NT$32.5 = CN¥6.7 = SEK 9.9 = DKK 6.7 = ₺49.6 = C$1.41 = A$1.43 = CZK 21.7; €1 = US$1.12; £1 = US$1.32; CHF 1 = US$1.21).
Key takeaways
- Yoseka lists seven current Slim Washi Tape designs at US$2.50 each, plus one discontinued design at US$2.25, on November 3, 2026.
- Six of the seven carry gold foil per Yoseka; Warm Flowers is the plain, non-foil one and is also the longer roll, 7 m instead of 5 m.
- At 5 mm wide the tape is one third the width of the 15 mm foil washi The Journal Shop lists for BGM's Life line.
- One 5 m roll goes around the edge of about ten A6 pages (506 mm each), our arithmetic from the sizes.
- No shop we could read states where the tape is made, and BGM's own site, bgm.co.jp, could not be reached.
What is BGM Slim Washi Tape?
It is BGM’s 5 mm wide washi tape: a thin roll, 5 m long, sold mostly with gold foil accents and priced at US$2.50 on Yoseka. At a third of the width of a standard 15 mm roll, it is meant for edges, borders, grids and dividers, not for covering a block of the page.
BGM is a Tokyo stationery brand founded in 2016, according to the Swedish retailer Tidformera, best known for washi and clear decorative tape. We couldn’t read BGM’s own site, bgm.co.jp, from our servers, so this guide uses Yoseka (US), bungu.store (Japan) and The Journal Shop, and it says what none of them states. Yoseka titles these rolls “Slim Washi Tape” even where the product text calls them “masking tape” or “Life washi tape”; bungu.store likewise sells washi tape under the name “masking tape”.

Which designs does Yoseka list?
Seven current designs and one discontinued one, all on the same 5 mm format. Yoseka’s descriptions give only the name, size and finish, so this is what the listings say and no more.
| Design | Length | Finish (Yoseka) |
|---|---|---|
| Warm Flowers | 7 m | Washi tape, no foil listed |
| Basic Dot | 5 m | Gold foil details |
| Basic Star | 5 m | Gold foil details |
| Mystery Pattern | 5 m | Gold foil details |
| Design Book | 5 m | Gold foil |
| Gold Numbers | 5 m | Washi paper, gold foil |
| Ribbon Index | 5 m | Washi paper, gold foil |
| Strawberry in Love | 5 m | Gold foil details; item code marked discontinued, US$2.25 |
In Yoseka’s product photos the roll sits on a small card with the tape drawn in a thin strip beneath it. Basic Dot is a row of small dots, Basic Star a row of stars, Gold Numbers a row of gold numerals, and Ribbon Index mixes ribbons with stripes and small marks. The colors in our drawing are tints sampled from those photos.
How is the Life 5 mm line at bungu.store different?
It is a non-foil 5 mm line with three designs, at ¥400 (about US$2.53). bungu.store describes it as tiny, detailed designs “sized to fit neatly inside planner grids and along card borders”, with a non-foil finish that keeps it subtle. Its designs are Leisure Time, Star Dream and Peeled Apple.
We don’t know whether these are the same product family as Yoseka’s rolls, since the names differ and neither shop says. bungu.store also sells a 5 mm clear tape with foil, five patterns on a PET base, at ¥600 (about US$3.80). That is a different material from washi, so see the BGM clear tape guide.
What is a 5 mm tape good for?
Anything that needs a line rather than a patch: page edges, column dividers, date headers and tabs. A strip of this width fits inside a planner column or along a card border without hiding the writing next to it, which is why bungu.store pitches the width at grids and borders.
Yoseka sells it in 5 m rolls, so one roll can run along many page edges, and bungu.store adds that its non-foil Life 5 mm designs keep the tape subtle, so it reads as decoration rather than embellishment. We haven’t tested how it tears, lifts or takes a pen line.
How does 5 mm compare with wider washi tape?
You pay the least per roll and cover the least page. Yoseka’s 5 mm BGM rolls are US$2.50 against US$5.00 for the foil washi in the IPPAI line. The Journal Shop lists BGM’s Life foil washi at 15 mm, and the clear Life tape is 20 mm wide.
| Tape | Width | Yoseka price | Per metre (our arithmetic) |
|---|---|---|---|
| BGM Slim Washi Tape | 5 mm | US$2.50 | US$0.50 |
| BGM Life clear tape, foil | 20 mm | US$4.50–6.00 | US$0.90–1.20 |
Price per metre is not price per page: a 20 mm tape covers four times the width of a 5 mm one. For border work the slim roll is cheaper; for block color or collage you would pick a 15 mm roll such as an mt washi tape. To sort your tapes and stickers once you own them, see the BGM Sticker Book A6. BGM’s wider US$5.00 foil rolls include Pieni Stitch, Tokimeki Flavor and Kusahanafu.
Who is it for?
Planners and journalers who decorate with lines and small marks, and who want a roll that costs less than a coffee. At US$2.50 for 5 m the cost of trying several designs is low, and the 5 m length covers about ten A6 page borders.
Skip it if you want wide blocks of pattern: at 5 mm it is a trim, not a background.
Where is BGM Slim Washi Tape made?
We don’t know. Neither Yoseka nor bungu.store states an origin, and BGM’s own site could not be read. BGM is a Japanese brand, but Paper Whisper lists BGM’s IPPAI flake stickers and clear tapes as made in China, so brand origin and place of manufacture shouldn’t be assumed to match for these tapes.
Frequently asked questions
How wide and long is BGM Slim Washi Tape?
5 mm wide and 5 m long, per Yoseka, with one exception: Warm Flowers is listed at 5 mm × 7 m.
How much does BGM Slim Washi Tape cost?
Yoseka listed each of seven designs at US$2.50 on November 3, 2026, in our $ band (under $5), and a discontinued design at US$2.25. bungu.store lists a non-foil Life 5 mm line at ¥400 (about US$2.53).
Does BGM Slim Washi Tape have gold foil?
Most designs do. Yoseka lists gold foil for Basic Dot, Basic Star, Mystery Pattern, Design Book, Gold Numbers and Ribbon Index. It lists none for Warm Flowers, and bungu.store calls its Life 5 mm line non-foil.
How many designs are there?
Yoseka lists seven current designs (Warm Flowers, Basic Dot, Basic Star, Mystery Pattern, Design Book, Gold Numbers, Ribbon Index) and one discontinued design, Strawberry in Love. bungu.store lists three more in a Life 5 mm line: Leisure Time, Star Dream and Peeled Apple.
How much does a 5 m roll of 5 mm tape cover?
5 m is 5,000 mm, and the edge of an A6 page (105 × 148 mm) is 506 mm, so one roll goes around about ten A6 pages. That is our arithmetic, not a maker claim.
Is BGM Slim Washi Tape made in Japan?
No shop we could read says. BGM is a Japanese brand, but its own site could not be reached from our servers, so we don't state an origin.
Is slim tape different from regular washi tape?
Mainly in width. The Journal Shop lists BGM's Life foil masking tapes at 15 mm, so the slim rolls are one third as wide and suit edges, grids and thin dividers rather than covering a block.
