What is StazOn Pigment?

It is the opaque member of Tsukineko’s StazOn all-surface ink family. Tsukineko calls it a versatile ink pad for many materials, and says the opaque finish is especially recommended for glass, vinyl and metal. The ink is oil-based, quick-drying, solvent-based and pigment-based, and it has a re-inker.

For the standard StazOn pad, see our StazOn guide.

How big is the pad?

The pad is 97 × 57 × 23 mm with a 76 × 35 mm inking face. The inker is a round bottle, 28 mm across and 72 mm tall, holding 15 ml.

What does it stamp on?

Nearly everything. Tsukineko lists plastic, metal, shrink plastic, rubber, leather, polymer clay, laminated paper, coated paper, plain paper, photos, glass, ceramic, terracotta, transparency film, painted surfaces and cloth. Drying runs from about 3 seconds on absorbent surfaces to about 5 minutes on non-absorbent ones, depending on material, weather and color.

Which colors are there?

Twelve opaque colors. They are Passion Red, Orange Peel, Lemon Drop, Pink Cosmos, Grape Candy, Mariner Blue, Shamrock Green, Peacock Feathers, Snowflake, Chocolate Brown, Koala Gray and Piano Black, as we read the names on Tsukineko’s page, which writes them in katakana. Tsukineko notes Snowflake and Piano Black inkers can also refill its StazOn Onamae White and Black pens.

How do you clean and care for it?

Clean the stamp soon after use, and cap the pad. Tsukineko says to remove the ink with StazOn Cleaner and then wipe with water, and that on slippery non-absorbent surfaces a failed print can be wiped off with the cleaner. Close the lid right after use to stop it drying. If the surface hardens, try StazOn Solvent first and refill if the color looks pale.

How does it compare with other Tsukineko pads?

It handles the hardest surfaces, at the cost of cleaning. The VersaFine Clair pad is the same size, 97 × 57 × 23 mm with a 76 × 35 mm face, but is for absorbent paper and dries in seconds. VersaCraft is for fabric and wood and uses an iron to set. StazOn Pigment needs StazOn Cleaner afterwards, and clear stamps may be damaged by its solvent.

The standard StazOn pad is the non-opaque version.

Where is it made, and what does it cost?

Tsukineko’s page doesn’t give a country of manufacture. The company history lists a Yoshikawa, Saitama factory and a US subsidiary in Redmond, Washington, and says StazOn Pigment was announced in 2019. At 900 yen (about US$5.70) before tax the pad is in our $$ band ($5–20).
