What is Kodomo no Kao #Techo Hanko-bu?

It’s Kodomo no Kao’s range of small wooden rubber stamps for planners, built around the idea of enjoying your planner with stamps. The Japanese stamp maker relaunched it in March 2024 with 24 designs and new stamp sizes.

Each stamp is a block of wood with a rubber die on a cushion, the classic Japanese hanko format. You ink it on a separate pad, so one stamp can print in any colour.

What does the Weekly Weather stamp print?

A design for logging the week’s weather in a planner: its Amazon US listing calls it a “weekly weather date mark”. We haven’t yet stamped it ourselves, so our cover shows a stand-in pattern rather than the real design.

It’s one of four 30 × 30 mm designs, 0412-001 to 0412-004. Kodomo no Kao’s page shows each design in use, so check the image there for the exact layout before buying.

How do you get a clean print?

Ink lightly, press straight down with even pressure, and lift without rocking. A 30 mm wooden block is easy to hold square, which helps on a planner page that doesn’t lie flat.

Over-inking fills in small lines, and rocking the block doubles the edges. On a thick planner, put a firm card under the page you’re stamping, so the rubber meets a flat surface. If you stamp the same spot every week, a stamp positioner such as a MISTI lines it up, though a small hand stamp rarely needs one.

Which ink pad works best?

A fine-detail pigment pad for crisp lines, or a water-based dye pad if you’ll colour the boxes in with markers. VersaFine Onyx Black is a common choice for small, detailed stamps, and Memento Tuxedo Black is the pad Tsukineko recommends for alcohol-marker colouring.

Wipe the rubber clean when you switch colours, so the next print isn’t tinted.

How do these compare with Kodomo no Kao’s button stamps?

#Techo Hanko-bu stamps are larger, single-design rubber stamps that need a pad; the Pochitto stamps are small self-inking buttons for tiny icons.

Stamp Type Image Price band
#Techo Hanko-bu Weekly Weather Wooden rubber stamp One 30 mm design $$$ (US import)
Pochitto6 Self-inking, 6 buttons 5.5 mm icons $$
Pochitto Pick! Self-inking, removable 6 mm icons $$

In Japan this stamp costs less than either Pochitto. In the US the only listing we found priced it as an import, which puts it in our $$$ band.

Where are #Techo Hanko-bu stamps made?

In China, according to the Amazon US listing for 0412-001. Kodomo no Kao’s own #Techo Hanko-bu page doesn’t state a country, and the maker lists its Pochitto6 self-inking stamps as made in China as well.
