What is the Pilot FriXion Stamp?

It is a tiny pre-inked stamp filled with Pilot’s erasable FriXion ink, so you can rub away a print you put in the wrong place. Pilot launched it in Japan on December 4, 2014 as the first FriXion product that wasn’t a writing instrument.

You pull off the cap and press: the stamp is pre-inked (浸透印, a “penetrating” stamp), so it needs no pad and prints repeatedly. The rear end carries a rubber eraser, so one stick both stamps and erases.

The designs are planner shorthand: “day off,” “done,” weather, birthdays, hearts, and animals such as the pink cat (SPF-12-44P).

How does a FriXion Stamp erase?

Friction heat: rubbing the dry print warms the ink until it turns clear. Pilot gives the full clearing point as about 65 °C and says the ink can start to return around -10 °C and fully return at about -20 °C.

FriXion Stamp drawn to scale at 55 by 14 by 14 mm, and a temperature bar showing the ink clears at about 65 °C and returns below about -10 °C
The prints stay put at room temperature and vanish with heat.

That works both ways: Pilot warns that a print left in a hot car or above 60 °C can disappear, and that paper types such as thermal paper may not erase cleanly. Keep the eraser clean, or it smudges the page.

Which FriXion Stamp designs are there?

Pilot’s Japanese catalog listed 80 designs on October 22, 2026, each tied to one ink color. The September 1, 2026 update added 20, including SNS slang (“iine,” “yoki,” “kami”) paired with cats and dogs, retro desserts and a new black ink.

Group Examples (ink color)
Schedule words Day off, done (red); office day (blue); dentist (light blue)
Weather Sunny (red), cloudy (light blue), rain (blue)
Animals Cat (pink), dog (green), chick (apricot orange), paw print (pink)
Black ink, 2026 Kuroneko black cat, sleepy cat, Shima-enaga, hedgehog, teddy bear
Symbols Heart, star, check, circle, cross

Pilot marks about 20 older designs, such as piano and remote work, as ending when stock runs out.

Can you refill a FriXion Stamp?

No: Pilot offers no refill ink, so you replace the stamp when it fades. At ¥154 (about US$1.00) each in Japan, it is priced as a consumable.

For a refillable alternative, the Midori Paintable Stamp uses separate ink pads, and the Kodomo no Kao Pochitto6 packs six self-inking designs in one stick, though neither erases.

FriXion Stamp vs other planner stamps

The FriXion Stamp is the only one of these whose prints you can erase.

FriXion Stamp Pochitto6 Midori Paintable
Inking Pre-inked, erasable Self-inking, permanent Needs a pad
Designs per item 1 6 1 per stamp
Refill None None (Hobonichi) Any pad
Price band $ $$ $$

Pair it with an erasable pen such as the Pilot FriXion Clicker and a whole planner page stays editable.

Where is the FriXion Stamp made?

Pilot doesn’t say in its catalog or press releases. Pilot is based in Tokyo, but the country of manufacture isn’t stated on the pages we read, so check the package.

Frequently asked questions

How do you erase a FriXion Stamp print?

Let the ink dry, then rub the print with the rubber on the stamp's rear end. Friction heats the ink until it turns clear; any FriXion eraser works the same way.

Is there refill ink for FriXion Stamps?

No. Pilot says it offers no refill ink; the ink is built into the stamp and you replace the stamp when it runs dry.

Do FriXion Stamp prints come back in the cold?

They can. Pilot says erased prints may start to return near -10 °C and fully return around -20 °C, for example in a car or freezer in winter.

Does FriXion Stamp ink bleed through planner paper?

Pilot designed the ink to resist bleeding through, which is why it markets the stamp for planners and bullet journals. We haven't tested it on thin papers yet.

Is there a black FriXion Stamp?

Yes, since September 1, 2026: Pilot added black ink with ten designs, including Kuroneko (black cat), Shima-enaga (a small white bird), a hedgehog, a hamster and a teddy bear.

Can I use FriXion Stamps on envelopes or documents?

Pilot says not to: heat can make the prints vanish, so don't use them for addresses, certificates or anything that must stay.

How many FriXion Stamp designs are there?

Pilot's Japanese catalog listed 80 designs on October 22, 2026, including some it marks as being discontinued once stock runs out.
