What is Memento Dew Drop?

It is a water-based dye ink pad that dries fast and prints in clear, translucent color. Tsukineko says Memento has more beautiful color, water resistance and light resistance than conventional dye inks, and that Dew Drop pads can color edges and small areas as well as stamp. Our Memento Tuxedo Black guide covers the black pad in the same family.

How big is the pad?

Each pad is 33 × 50 × 20 mm with a 24 × 39 mm inking face. That is a small pad, close to the Delicata S in depth but taller.

How fast does it dry?

About 3 to 5 seconds on art paper and about 1 second on inkjet paper. Tsukineko says it is especially quick on plain paper, which suits New Year cards and planner stamps that must dry fast. Times vary with the material, weather and color.

What can you do with it?

Stamp, color edges and blend. Tsukineko lists absorbent glossy, art and coated paper, vellum, plain paper and inkjet paper as suitable, with the finest detail on absorbent glossy and art paper. It says to use the Ink Blender for blur, smudge and spray effects, and that re-inkers can be mixed. For coloring with alcohol markers, it recommends Memento.

How do you store it?

Stack the pads. Tsukineko built the cases to stack, with a color label on each side so you can see which color is which. For other pads from the maker, compare the VersaFine Clair, which is pigment-based and water-resistant once dry, and the Delicata for metallic color.

How does it compare with other Tsukineko pads?

It is the fastest water-based pad here, and the only dye ink. Delicata is water-based pigment and takes 10 to 15 minutes; Artnic takes about the same. VersaFine Clair dries in 3 to 5 seconds but is oil-based. Memento’s 24 × 39 mm face is smaller than the 76 × 47 mm face of Tsukineko’s larger pads, so it suits small stamps and edges.

Ink Drying
Memento Dew Drop water-based dye 3 to 5 seconds on art paper
Delicata water-based pigment 10 to 15 minutes
Artnic pigment 10 to 15 minutes
VersaFine Clair oil-based pigment 3 to 5 seconds

Times are Tsukineko’s, on paper that absorbs ink.

Where is it made, and what does it cost?

Tsukineko’s page doesn’t give a country of manufacture. The company history lists a Yoshikawa, Saitama factory and a US subsidiary in Redmond, Washington, and says Memento was announced in 2008. At 430 yen (about US$2.72) before tax a pad is in our $ band (under $5).
