How did we choose these stores?

We picked shops that focus on stationery and were open on October 26, 2026, then weighed what each one stocks and does. Our criteria:

  • A dedicated focus on stationery; Kyobo is the one bookstore, for its stationery corners and Hottracks shop.
  • Something you can only do there, such as mixing ink at Monami’s Ink Lab or browsing a brand’s own finished journals at Papier Prost.
  • Korean brands first, from Monami’s 153 pens to Point of View’s and Analogue Keeper’s own notebooks.
  • Standing in the stationery community, from the Seoul city government’s and Woman Sense’s shop guides cited below.
  • Open now, confirmed on each store’s own site on October 26, 2026.

We compiled this from the stores’ own websites and that coverage; we have not visited them for this guide, and we do not rate them.

Why is each store on the list?

Each store earns its place with a specific range or service, not general gift stock.

  • Point of View Seoul (Seongsu-dong): its own planners and notebooks, pens, desk tools and leather goods over three floors themed Tool, Scene and Archive.
  • Monami Store Seongsu: the 153 ballpoint maker’s own shop, with an Ink Lab, engraving and free gift wrapping, in the district where Monami built its first factory in 1963.
  • Kyobo Gwanghwamun and Hottracks: art, school, office and design stationery corners and a Hottracks shop, open until 10 pm.
  • Object Seogyo (Hongdae): stickers, letter sets and planners from small Korean brands, with exhibitions in the store.
  • Papier Prost (Seochon): Analogue Keeper’s notebooks and diaries, shown alongside journals written in them.
  • 10x10 Daehangno: the shop of a Korean design-goods website, strong on diaries, stickers and masking tape.

Which Seoul stores are best for pens and ink?

Monami’s Seongsu store is the pen stop: it sells Monami’s range, runs Ink Lab sessions by reservation to make your own ink, and engraves pens for ₩2,000 (about US$1.50). It opens 10 am to 9 pm daily, a few steps from Seongsu Station.

Monami’s 153 ID ballpoint lists at ₩20,000 (about US$15) on its brand store. Point of View, about 400 m (a quarter mile) away, sells pens from other makers among its desk tools. Read our Monami 153 guide first.

How do tax refunds work in Seoul?

If you’re a foreign visitor staying up to six months, you can reclaim VAT on goods of ₩15,000 (about US$11) or more that you take out of Korea within three months, per the Korea Tourism Organization. Immediate-refund shops take the tax off at the till.

Otherwise, keep the refund receipt and claim at a downtown refund counter or kiosk, or at the airport after customs. Ask each shop which method it offers, and bring your passport.

Which Seoul stationery stores did we leave out?

We left out shops we could confirm only on Instagram or in magazines, such as the pencil shop Heuksim in Yeonnam-dong and Smultronställe in Seochon, and the Trolls Paper showroom, whose site gives only an office address. All three appear in Woman Sense’s April 2026 guide.

Object’s Seongsu shop and Monami’s Insadong store are missing from their current store lists, and The Paper Lab, Samwon Paper’s library of about 5,000 papers, is a designers’ space booked ahead.
